If Russians are as inherentily evil as you say, then why is the Kremlin bothering to do propaganda to its citizens lying about the cause? If you are right, they would just tell Russians that they are going to Ukraine to murder Ukrainians.

Russian conscripts are the product of the morality and ethos of the Russian millitary which is a direct reflection of the political leaders at the top. No more and no less. As they say in Russia, the fish rots from the head.

Ordinary Russians are no different to you and me, it's the propaganda and indoctrination that makes them behave differently. It's a morally befert leadership that makes them this way.

It is also circumstances.  If you remove social order some will feel free to do whatever they want, most will remain silence or join to stay alive, some, with the strongest moral backbone, oppose it.

Right before this goes further down the rabbit hole of people making stuff up... the Russian forces has done some horrendous things but they are not all rapists buggering each other in basic training.

The situation is bad enough without people diminishing it by just making shit up. There is documentation of physical abuse and initiation rites amongst conscripts, often involving beatings and drug taking, but this is an overspill of taking young kids from skid row with many of these issues and transplanting them to a barracks where they aelre just looking to wind down their time and get out.

Its why artificial national service is general crap.

There's a case documented by Ch4 where a Russian soldier drunk had raped and murdered a Ukranian woman. The follow-up unit of Russians had found her body, buried and marked her grave. Scrawled a note on a mirror saying they'd found her she'd been raped and they buried her and told the neighbours they had found her and where she was buried.

Everyone wants the 'bad guys' to be the Devil. Stupid people believe it.

There are undoubtedly a lot of out of control, ill disciplined and scumbag elements at play. Part of that is the casualty rate meaning command structures and any sense of control breaks down.

Then you are relying on the individual inhibitions of a kid whose been given a rifle, a sense of power and a sense of imminant mortality / alcohol / drugs / sense of impunity.
