TheCountOfNowhere
Definitely looks like prices are starting to come down  Now sure what a black lab Huntaway is that's £750, not far off the pre-pandemic prices https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3323495-labrador-x-huntaway-york.html and here are some for https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3263470-chocolate-labrador-pups-llanelli.html £850  The people paying £2K for these 12 months ago ( a bit like the loons buying house to save 3% on a massively over priced house ) must be living on a different planet from us.  Labroaddoles down to £1000, was seeing them up for £2500 !!! https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3190801-beautiful-labradoodle-pups-cardiff.html  And same with Sh**poos, down below £1000. https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3290385-shihpoo-puppies-stowmarket.html  I tell a lie...£500 here https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3302584-beautiful-litter-of-shihpoos-two-remaining-northwich.html
Ignorantbliss
New listings for round here still over the £1k mark so the boom continues unabated. Stunning statistic... Quote In the 15 months since the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic, pet ownership has boomed. Over three million new households now have pets, and many of those have bought dogs. In fact there has been a huge rise in the total number of dogs in the country — an estimated 12 million today, up from 10 million in early 2020, according to data from pet food manufacturers — an increase, which has seen puppy prices soar (and even the worrying trend of dog kidnapping). From this article - link Equally stunning is the rise in vet bills... Quote The increase in premiums also reflects a rise in vets’ fees, drug prices and the availability of more complex treatments. Blame for this is laid at the door of private equity-backed companies such as VetPartners (BC Partners), Medivet (Inflexion Private Equity) and IVC Evidensia (EQT), which are mopping up independent practices and setting challenging stretch targets. And after consolidation and centralisation comes inflation. There are reasons private equity firms buy businesses, and few of them are about animal welfare. From this article - link Vet bills are going to be a slow burner issue - once the lockdown dogs get to 6yrs+ of age, and the bills start arriving, you do wonder how many will then be sent to the rescue centres. Ignorantbliss
Interesting to see that the Inland Revenue are now taking an interest in the puppy boom. https://www.dunfermlinepress.com/news/19404438.sspca-record-high-figures-puppy-welfare-calls-fife/ Quote "We've had someone in court that proudly told the judge he had made £1.5 million in 18 months from puppy sales and then was fined £2,000. So where is the deterrent? "We've noticed HMRC following these cases up now though and actually chasing people for tax. "One dealer was hit with a £500,000 tax bill and that shut them down. It's not the way we expected them to be stopped but at least it's shutting them down." The puppy boom continues unabated round here with prices still over £1k in the vast majority of cases. The puppy mania continues, reflected in this article.. https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/local/perth-kinross/2396632/sspca-pet-prices/ It's behind a paywall but apparently the SSPCA are still getting dozens/three digit applications for strays. The ultimate reflection of discretionary expenditure continues to boom. TheCountOfNowhere
Quick update on my black labs dog price index £850 last month...down to £550 this month https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3378017-cheeky-chunky-labs-pencader.html Even the paid for ads on that sit are down to £700 for gold labs https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3440871-chunky-yellow-labrador-puppy-last-girl-and-boy-llanelli.html  Similar for the other ones I looked at: Labroaddoles Mostly below £1K now, including the paid for adverts. These cuties were £600 https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3364407-all-sold-now-thankyou-sutton-coldfield.html Shihpoos £650 for this ugly thing https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/3476625-boy-shihpoo-puppys-bishop-auckland.html and the paid for adverts well below £1K now.  All of them peaked about £2500. I wonder how many are looking at this thinking they made a mistake
PeanutButter
Nice work! I enjoy seeing a price collapse. Just checked Battersea and they have 17 dogs available. It does depend on your insurer. The best don't put up their fees with age and will insure for existing conditions. I was very happy that I got insurance because dog needed an operation that cost £2500 after eating something unsuitable.

This might make you smile.  I witnessed the moment one of the people i know paid £2650 for a dog found out you could now buy one for £650, they've come down a bit she said  Gets better, her husband called and she was telling him the prices has come down... To about £1200.  When quizzed on how much they've paid, 2650 had become around 2k. Someone they know had thought about buying at £3k...before deciding it was too much.  Now, to see the look on all their faces when i said... House prices will be next .... Was a sight to behold.  Barking mad.   Edited August 30, 2021 by TheCountOfNowhere
coypondboy
Is it me or are dogs getting smaller and being given their own vehicles to rise in like baby prams or baskets on bicycles. The BCP prom seems to be a very popular place for these new type of dogs with the large gay population and older retired population. We also have a lot of grey squirrels in the gardens and it is funny to see dogs smaller then the squirrels chasing them. I have to be very careful when out on the bike not to run the little darlings over and the look of horror on the owners faces when they look like their pride and joy is about to be crushed under an e sccoter of hire bike driven by hen and stag groups down for the weekend all taking selfies whilst not looking where they are going and me wondering when they last rode a bike or had they ever taken a cycling proficiency exam is hilarious to watch. reddog
Does a dog price crash mean anything or is it it's own isolated bubble?
btl_hater
Going by the proportion of households that I see dragging one or more dogs around town (while stopping to engage in inane conversation with other owners each time their dogs start sniffing one another) I sometimes wonder if I missed the introduction of the new law where dog ownership is mandatory?

Pwecious £5000 snoodleoo needs to come with the family for holidays. Quick! Ignorantbliss
Had a browse of the local rescue centres and Pets4Home site just now and the most obvious change from a few weeks ago is that there are a lot more dogs appearing on the rescue sites. Most with behavioural issues as well, good luck in rehoming them... What does surprise me a bit more is that the prices are still very high for puppies in the local area (50 mile or so radius of Aberdeen) with the vast majority of listings being £1k+ and the fashionable mongrel types still going for £1.5k+. I was expecting prices to be getting back to 2019 values now that schools are back and furlough is ending (combined with the tepid local economy). Also had a look at some of the charity sites that specialise in importing rescue dogs from Europe. Some very slick websites - £600 for some gorgeous setters for example.  https://www.settusfree.org.uk/available-setters/
