61% x 52% = 32% think [Brexit] will turn out well in the end.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jun/22/leave-voters-brexit-success-poll

We're barely in the third year of Brexit (excluding Covid). What is it with Remainers and their randomly demanded short termism? Is 2 years a good timeframe to invest in equities for example? ;)

Of course, we are happily enjoying some of those benefits today, which makes arguing for the benefits a lot easier, but I think it could take decades to get the real juicy ones. You know, like investments

Surprised this thread hasn't even mentioned the Brexiteer QT.

No bad news from it. If there was, and indeed if there is any bad news anywhere, this thread would be on 6630 pages now

I only caught the last few minutes of it.

What I did see, was the Labour woman promising they would not be seeking to join the single market or customs union.

But then saying they would be reopening negotiations to improve certain aspects.  Well good luck with that.  Unless they make some realistic threats on (for example) fishing, and be prepared to action them in reality,  it'll get nowhere.

To fly a Ukrainian flag is not an issue, but ..., but ..., but ...

London mayor’s office ‘banned’ from flying EU flag on referendum anniversary

Ministers have been accused of criminalising the flying of the European Union flag on government buildings in England after London’s City Hall was told it could be prosecuted for displaying it on the anniversary of the Brexit referendum.

Without so-called advertising consent from Newham council, City Hall, which is the headquarters of the GLA and is where Sadiq Khan, the capital’s mayor, is based, would have been liable to criminal prosecution under the amended town and country planning (control of advertisements) regulations.

“With over a million people calling London their home from other European countries it’s extraordinary that the government has effectively banned the European flag being flown without going through a long and bureaucratic planning process.

Guardian

Well show the flags of the European nations, not the flag of a supranational bureaucracy.  Why not the NATO flag ?

It's because it is obvious the EU flag is there to show rejoiner sympathies, not for any professed love of EU immigrants.  In fact displaying the Ukraine flag is similar because it is to indicate solidarity with Ukraine in the war.  Which is something we generally agree with and is government policy.

But why are we showing solidarity with the EU ?

FFS and then they expect the DUP to return to Stormont. I tell you what how about a UK wide vote on the kind of Brexit people want ! That one is long overdue yet even Cummings thought people should have been asked.

How many British people could point to the six counties on a map of Ireland?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/06/29/german-inflation-jumps-unexpectedly-june-transport-prices/

Quote

German inflation unexpectedly jumped in June as a rise in transport prices hit Europe’s biggest economy.

Prices rose by 6.8pc in the year to June, up from 6.3pc for the previous month, in a move that will pile pressure on the European Central Bank to press ahead with interest rate increases.

The rise compounds the country’s problems as it struggles to escape from recession.

Quote

Germany’s core inflation – which strips out volatile food and energy prices – climbed from 5.4pc to 5.8pc.

It follows figures from earlier this week suggesting that Germany could remain in a recession for the rest of the year.

They should have though more carefully before voting for Deutschexit.  If only they had understood what they were voting for!

Nigel Farage says he is being driven from UK by pro-Remain banks

Ex-Brexit party leader claims ‘serious political persecution’ as accounts face closure

What is more likely?  The 'Remoaner Cabal' is out to get him.  He's a Politically Exposed Person with opaque financing ?

He's not the only one.  Toby Young has had the same thing happen as have about seven less well known Brexiters.

No doubt you are gleefully pleased about this, but you shouldn't be.

“This is serious political persecution at the very highest level of our system. If they can do it to me, they can do it to you too,” Farage, now a GB News presenter, said.

Oh dear, are they also on the payroll of the ruzzis?

Apparently Fart-rage received £548,573 from Russia Today in 2018 alone.

That was the allegation, that's all.  If was not proven then they've not right to do this based on hearsay.  Also why do it now, years after the supposed event ?

You can believe this nonsense if you want, but this is all about social credit, rejoiner style.  They've already removed the democratically elected PM and now they are punishing the others.

I'm sure a Swiss banker will be happy to accept anyone as a client if they have enough to open an account there, although didn't Switzerland recently drop their neutrality where ruzzian money is concerned? Might be tricky for a lot of people then, although maybe he'll have more luck with his German passport.

Does anyone have any evidence the accounts were closed for a particular reason? I did a quick search and Young's accounts were reopened, but after he was told he shouldn't promote hate speech and was "spreading ‘Covid-19 misinformation’". It might be not because of their leave opinions but instead they're breaking the golden rule "Don't be a dick".

So here we have it.  You can only have a bank account if you're not a dick.

We should uphold the rights of dicks I'm afraid.

Interesting, so it turns out theres some substance to claims from (Johnsons) conservatives ?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/09/11/nigel-farage-not-fit-proper-person-enter-electoral-pact-say/

Quote

A senior Conservative source said: “Neither Nigel Farage nor [former Ukip donor] Arron Banks are fit and proper persons and they should never be allowed anywhere near government."

When quizzed on how they had reached that assessment, the source said: “All our experience of dealing with them leads us to believe that.”

No.

It has taken you eight years and you still think such a strawman is a point of debate.

If this were 2015, I could believe that you think the argument for EU membership is that Europe is perfect. But it is not.
