If you want to make something more popular, then ban it.

Ban smoking, ban sleeping rough, ban the unwanted innocent, ban those speaking up for peace, ban those that get in way of banning things.....take back control.;)

ban those speaking up for peace,

If you are talking about the middle east, their would be eternal peace tomorrow if the palestinians accepted the existence of israel and worked with them. But i dont think that you mean people proposing that do you?

Not getting into that argument....peace means no retaliation for wrong doing, two wrongs do not make a right...applies to all.....collateral damage are innocent people, who wants that?.;)

Lots of money to be made from war and conflict.....big business..... Most people are not stupid, just trying to survive or not wanting further escalation, just a few people have so many thousands of people in their hands.;)

Equality, but not the kind of....

Oh, they actually say equity. Don't want to get those two mixed up, they wouldn't want to be hypocritical now would they ;)

Apparently the request to shut down the event came from the local Mayor Emir Kir - who according to his wikipedia profile was expelled from the Belgian Socialist party for his links to the Turkish far right, evicted children and families squatting in an empty convent, apparently used intimidation and fraud to get re-elected last time and has denied the Armenian genocide during WWI (where over 1.2 million Armenians were murdered by the Turkish Ottoman empire) ever took place.

Sounds a right charmer.

You really couldn't make it up - he is probably more 'far right' himself than anyone attending the actual conference!

Not enough of them to count, far left no different....elections are won from the centre....most people are moderate, liberal free thinkers.  ;)

Emir Kir, the mayor of Saint Josse, said: “I issued an order from the Mayor to ban the National Conservatism Conference event to guarantee public safety. In Etterbeek, Brussels City and Saint-Josse, the far-right is not welcome.”

The notice served by the police said the event posed a danger to pedestrians outside the venue, a conference source said.

Then Emir Kir and his political puppet police are going to be very busy in June, when the European Parliament convenes in Brussels after the imminent European Elections.

Oh, and Belgium's own national Government, after the General Election on the same day.  Vlaams Belang and Nieuw-Vlaams Alliantie are on course to gain nearly 50% of the vote.

Perhaps the Brussels Police might pay a bit more attention to policing the district of Molenbeek, an effective no-go area which was home to some of the Bataclan terrorist gang?

there would not. Israelis are busy building settlements all over the West Bank and evicting Palestinians from the land they take. Not many notice because everyone is focussed on Gaza.

Plenty of people on both sides who don't accept the rights of the other side to exist.

"Local" - There you go, the take over continues.

I was more referencing the error in the title - as he isn't the Mayor of the city of Brussels just of one municipality in the Brussels city region.

Not a good look for Sunak's government though when one of his MPs (and former Home Secretary) is branded far right, which of course she pretty much is.

Far right in rhetoric.

In practice, she had a very weak grip on borders and happily waived in even more immigrants than her predecessor.

Sorry I wasn’t picking sides- the point I am making is that the side appealing for ceasefire is always the losing one in any conflict. It does not mean they are on the side of peace, just that they are Losing.

This absolutely vindicates our decision to leave the EUSSR.

Care to explain why?

A mayor or local authority in the UK could do the same here . IIRC a couple of years ago Boris Jonson banned Conservative MPs from attending the same conference on the grounds that it was an extreme group aiming to ferment division.

For decades the European response to those who had a different view on immigration was to scream racist and circle the political wagons. During that time both populist and far right parties have grown in popularity.

So maybe they should try having an actual debate and make arguments justifying the pro-open borders consensus?
