Landlords Lisa Walsh, 30, and her husband Chris, 35, live a lavish life of travelling across the world, all while they are forcing people from their homes in Aberllefenni, north Wales, with massive rent hikes, MailOnline can reveal. The couple are a husband-and-wife team who bought the entire historic Welsh mining village of Aberllefenni for £1million and are forcing out their tenants with huge rent increases of up to 60 per cent". 24gray24
Tenants have no rights. It's like the Highland clearances. Evict and flog them is the plan. Make the bustards go to court to evict you is the solution. But make sure everyone keeps paying the rent meanwhile. They'll get a court date in November. And then the judge may get ill and it will be April. Serve them right.

I'm surprised how many comments endorse the rent rises, saying things like "oh well, that's just how much rent is nowadays". Those ugly parasites have ruined a number of lives by hiking 60%. MARTINX9
The evidence of them being 'jet setting' is that they have been on holiday to Las Vegas and Santorini in the last few years - and posed for a photo outside a casino. How did we end up in a situation where an entire village could be sold anyway - were these quarrymen's houses originally owned by the state/nationalised companies? Some of the residents seem more angry at the council to be fair - who have no funds in their discretionary pot to top up their rents over and above any housing benefit entitlement. TenYearToGetMyMoneyBack
Years ago there was a long standing joke that might have started on something like Not the Nine o Clock News. "Come home to a real fire - Buy a Cottage in Wales". They had better hope the Welsh Nationalists don't get wind of this as Chester isn't that far away. bartelbe
Classic misuse of debt, they are effectively using their new tenants to pay off money they have borrowed, which they can't afford. Such rent collecting economic activity does nothing to improve economic growth.
Nick Cash
All the house were previously owned by the family of the local slate quarry owner. Rents were going up 3% per annum, presumably from a low starting point. Not sure what state the houses are in probably need a fair bit of updating. At least the new landlords aren’t Boomers though. hotblack42
Not defending these ass wipe opportunists, but anyone in a private rental dependent on way below market rate rent needs to act: either get a raise, move on or put some kind of contingency in place. Perhaps some did, but from the uproar some were clearly just hoping for the best. The modern world is harsh, sadly.

A lot of them seem to old or too sick or just too unqualified if of working age to work more. Its easy to say have a contingency in place - but perhaps they never got the chance to do so? 24gray24
The landlord just wants them to leave quickly. Because he knows he's up the creek with interest rate rises. And has to sell quickly before prices drop further. So his cunning plan to get them to leave quickly and without paying a penny is hike the rents and serve eviction notices. The counter is crowd fund the increase, meanwhile pay the old rent, and let him go to court as above. That leaves him either paying them to leave or waiting months for an uncertain day in court. Given the fact he's all over the press, the tenants clearly had more power than he could possibly have imagined. Doesn't bode well. The press will be at the court hearing for a start. It's going to be a pantomime with him playing the villain.

Never going to happen of course because people in general are c**ts.
