thecrashingisles
With the Olympic Games just days away they are shaping up to be an absolute shambles. This incident looks trivial compared to the kind of crime we're likely to see during the course of the games. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3718338/Gold-medal-originality-Man-throws-Chinese-athlete-Rio-hotel-lobby-forcing-hurdler-bathroom-leaving-bags-unattended-accomplice-steal.html Man throws up on Chinese hurdler in Rio hotel lobby to distract him so his accomplice can steal his bags
workingpoor
Yes the 31 tower blocks comprising the "Olympic Village" are in poor condition and not "Habitable" according to the Australian team who have refused to move in and are slumming it in nearby Hotels. I guess the legacy idea behind the constructing of 31 tower blocks is for Favela inhabitants to inherit them after the games are over? (hence the lack of attention to detail & "finishing off"?) I guess we can expect to see more action "off track" than on? I read that raw sewage from the Favela's is contaminating the sailing, rowing & canoeing lakes? knock out johnny
Rio looks like a fcking sh!thole at the best of times They should never have been given the olympics or the world cup while they can't even look after the street kids (other than exterminating them) Anyone who thinks brazil is a great place needs a dose of reality - it's a hive of tragic squalour and degradation It's a 3rd world khazi with illusions of 1st world grandeur
XswampyX
I read that raw sewage from the Favela's is contaminating the sailing, rowing & canoeing lakes? No $hit. Olympic athletes and tourists heading to Rio de Janeiro are being told to keep their mouths shut and their heads above water. The results of a 16-month study conducted for the Associated Press released Monday found that Rio’s waterways are still full of human sewage with bacteria and viruses that could cause serious illness. Barf! Daniel Becker, a local pediatrician, told the New York Times last week that foreign athletes will “literally be swimming in human crap” Source :- Somebody's backside.... http://www.ibtimes.com/rio-olympics-water-problems-athletes-tourists-warned-about-pollution-bacteria-viruses-2396487 A study published in late 2014 had shown the presence of the super bacteria - classified by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as an urgent public health threat - off one of the beaches in Guanabara Bay, where sailing and wind-surfing events will be held during the Games. Super Olympic bacteria for the win. The super bacteria can cause hard-to-treat urinary, gastrointestinal, pulmonary and bloodstream infections, along with meningitis. The CDC says studies show that these bacteria contribute to death in up to half of patients infected. In Turin the olympic village, which isn't bad, was supposed to provide housing for young people Turin, now houses a couple of days of arrivals from Africa - about 10,000 illegal immigrants. reddog
Actually went on holiday to Brazil about 5 years ago, I really enjoyed it, especially the food wandered around alone outside of the tour group without being mugged. Could it just be the media are loving complaining about the event? As they did for things like the Sochi Olympics? It is not as if the sainted London games had no crime: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-08-09/incredible-night-out-goes-awry-for-discus-champion/4187618?pfm=ms

Big Orange
London was a near miss as a fiasco (and we had the ever scandal ridden G4S succumbing to the Peter Principle and gate security had to be handled by British servicemen). Rio's World Cup went OK-ish, but Olympic events in the last 30 years have become increasingly bloated.
