TheCountOfNowhere
You're not wrong there. I am just over 40, but married and settled late and now have two kids. Trying to somehow find a place to call home and get us out of rented. Surely this is discrimination against me because of my age? And who will you be voting for now ? TheCountOfNowhere
Osborne just said in his speech help to buy would be "Permanent", The government will permanently give a 20% bonus to bankers and builders for every house sold !!!! It really is time people stood up against this. The banking industry should be on it's knees and the people responsible for the 2007 crash in prison, not out aand about getting paid by the tax payer to do it all again. Does he think this is a vote winner #deluded

winkie
House/land prices are out of kilter with UK wages.....money flooding in from overseas and easy credit has caused that, foreign money is more important than priced out people that live and work here......therefore pumping prices is good, help to buy is good....next year they will be giving people who in normal markets would not require tax payer gifts 30% cash up front to buy.......no first time buyers or foreign money, no market rises......high house prices are good, the gifts are to keep things forever swinging upwards and onwards.......no more jobs for life, now all we will have a box to live in for life, because there is no ladder.....the market is fixed. TheCountOfNowhere
It is a vote winner....... for UKIP! You mean all those disaffected under 40's who have seen their savings disappear, their hard earned deposits become worthless in 12 months, their wages fall nominally never mind in real terms, no pensions, cost of living going up, bankers laughing up their sleeve at them one the BBc, massive governbment propaganda etc etc etc. might vote against the established order....no, will never happen....or so they thought till 45% of Scotland told them to **** off. TheCountOfNowhere
.....the market is fixed. I some times have to pinch myself, I cannot believe what these corrupt thieves have gotten away with. The best laid plans of mice and men though..... The big issue for me is though, and i've said this a few times, I think we will see an upswing in far right parties and a(nother) massive land war. TheCountOfNowhere
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-29402844 " George Osborne proposes two year benefits freeze""In his speech to the conference, Mr Osborne said it would be "a serious contribution to reduce the deficit"." So would withdrawing support for the bankers, stop supporting the housing pyramid, cutting over inflated public sector wages, not going to war etc etc etc. This man isn't making cuts he's doing the tory thing from the 70/80s where he spends less and hopes inflation does the rest. This time thought he has under-estimated one small thing...that being ( IMHO ) he's an out of touch idiot lacking in ideas and moral fibre., I am so ashamed to have voted for these public school boys. TheCountOfNowhere
For Labour, Chris Leslie. shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, said: "George Osborne claims he has fixed the economy, but he's only fixed it for a privileged few at the top." How very true.
Wurzel Of Highbridge
I got this email to-day. I regret responding to a poll that got me on their email list. I am incredibly frustrated that they cannot see that QE / easy money and the planning regime are the root causes of the house price bubble and that both main parties are complicit. And another spam from Conservative HQ Wurzel, Today I set out how we can secure a better future - and build a Britain that everyone is proud to call home. A Britain where hard work is rewarded. Not a free-for-all, but a chance for all: the chance of a job, a home, a good start in life, whoever you are, wherever you are from. I set out our Conservative commitment for the next five years. If you want to provide for yourself and your family, you'll have the security of a job. If you work hard and do the right thing, you will keep more of the money to spend as you choose. We will cut income tax for 30 million hardworking taxpayers - increasing the tax-free personal allowance from £10,000 to £12,500, and raising the 40p tax rate threshold from £41,900 to £50,000. For those wanting to buy a home, we will help you get on the housing ladder - with 100,000 new homes, available to first-time buyers under 40 at a 20% discount. We will make sure every child gets a great education so they can reach their potential. And for those retiring, we will make sure you get a decent pension and real rewards for a life of work. A good job, a nice home, more money at the end of the month, a decent education for your children, a safe and secure retirement. A country where if you put in, you get out. A Britain everyone is proud to call home - and a long-term plan to get there. So let's finish what we have begun. Let's secure a better future for you, your family and for everyone. Wurzel - please play your part by donating to our campaign today. Thank you, David Cameron
cool_hand
First-time buyers offered 20% discount on new homes http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-31668135 I dispair.
onlyme2
The offer is part of the government's new "starter homes" scheme to encourage home ownership and construction on previously used "brownfield" land The lies coming from this disgraceful party of liars is sickening. Brownfield land prices are insane, there would be huge construction if more land were available and ultra restrictive useage was not prescribed across the country. throwing 20% taxpayer bung to developers is jsut going into the back pockets of the cartel of building companies able to push land prices beyond economic development for the rest of the building industry that would thrive without all this overt manipulation to restrict supply and increase the price of land. I wil never, very vote for these shysters again.
Hairy1305
I am more than a little surprised they can circumvent age discrimination laws by way of this 'discount'. They really are crooked. France, ostensibly a socialist country, allows a free market with their houses and haven't interfered with the market over there. Only America and the UK from what I understand. It is almost criminal that they think the answer to a huge asset bubble is to inflate it some more.
Fully Detached
A few people getting together in a class action against the age discrimination should be enough to slow this down long enough to subdue it until after the election, after which I expect them to quietly drop it anyway. In fact I'm sure they are pretty much expecting it, so they can wring their hands and say, "We tried to help, don't blame us". tinker
What's this got to do with the price of land? You would hope the media and people like Martin Lewis might actually spell out what this means to both potential purchasers and the taxpayer. Immoral. Short-term vote chasing. Cronyism. spyguy
Heard this on the radio. Strange. Never heard the BBC make an announcement for Tesco or Debenhams when they crank up prices, then lower them to claim to have '20% discount'. pl1
Conservatives have to be the most cynical electioneering party ever. I wouldn't vote for them if they offered a 50% discount. 7th May just over two months away now folks. It's all up for grabs!

What next? 50% discounts? 100% discounts? Pay builders to build houses? The road to corporate socialism is paved with good intentions. pipllman
even the least economically literate must surely realise that when a government has to intervene in an established market with subsidies, that means the market is fooked surely
Bear Goggles
And another spam from Conservative HQ Lol. Perhaps they'd get more people to join them if they offered 20% off each donation to the Conservative party. Not 20% off to you, obvs. 20% of you donation goes towards Conservative MP's salaries so they can afford to sit in Parliament and continue to support the interests of the banking cartels. Nope i think it would be playing right into their hands ,they are trying to make it look like they are DOING something for the young but they would love it to be made available to everyone, i would not be surprised if what you say about a class action is their MO for making it available to everyone
