ParticleMan
Over the years, I've noticed that fluctuations in my own income tends to run deeply counter to underlying economic trends. Anyone still operating under the impression that this "recession" has "stabilised" or that we are even remotely close to "returning to normal" is seriously delusional - judging by that metric (I call this the "I'm alright, Jack" metric - and I am indeed, thank-you for asking). We might finally be seeing a base form under the hitherto precipitous drop in production (remember that Mazda factory, anyone?). But the trend will still be firmly downward. I'd be very surprised if this survey reports rising incomes, in other words. If it does, it'll tell me that the base is temporary (defined as a lack of buyers to sell to), and that the plunge will continue once the market draws sufficient liquidity to permit this. JohnG
Went from self employed consultancy - salary/ dividends to PAYE consultancy employee. Gross salary is about half of the gross fees I would normally bill. Overall 'take home pay' after taxation & adjustments for expenses has more or less halved. Mr Yogi
I'm self-employed, and by slashing my overheads and shedding my staff I'm earning double what I was 2 years ago!
3 Men In A Boat
This forum is not likely to be representative. On the whole we are well educated, high earners, of above average capability. (Even if we waste all day here. ) Either that or unemployed?

WATP
After no increase for my staff (including me) for 18 months I am planning to impose a temporary 10% cut across the board until business recovers. As my company covers both manufacturing and services it is interesting to note that while manufacturing is doing OK services has taken a major dive. Prices are continuing to fall across the board from rent to couriers to supplies to professional services. The only area where costs are going up is taxes!! With a job title that includes the words "diversity", "equal opportunities" or "outreach"? It comes from working hard, taking on extra work and being more flexible. You should try it some time rather than slag other people off with your accusations.
