Wait & See Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Competition hurdles to be cleared for HBOS/Lloyds TSB deal Kevin Mountford, head of banking at moneysupermarket.com, meanwhile claims the best solution for consumers would be for HBOS not to be swallowed by Lloyds TSB. "A shotgun marriage of HBOS and Lloyds TSB would not be in the best interests of British consumers," he said Quote

Wires 74 Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 The deal will go ahead, this section of the output is just to throw a ball in the opposite direction for some. Misinformation added to misinformation is just part of the game, Browns announcement is really about saying we are going to do the same as the Fed announced on Monday, we will deregulate if need be to fight the hedge funds at their own game. The hedge funds are smelling blood in the air it might be their targets it might be their own its still quite tight to call for sure. Very High Stakes Poker for sure - are the Hedge Funds hoping to bust HBOS then get cash back from Gordon ( a-la UK taxpayer) not sure how these things work ... I see they had a concerted attack before 9.am this morning then again at 1300 this afternoon - will the shorters have another go before close I wonder ? Quote
Nicholas Cage Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) This is the official statement In the light of market speculation, the Board of HBOS plc confirms that it is in advanced talks with Lloyds TSB Group plc which may or may not lead to an offer being made for HBOS.A further announcement will be made when appropriatehttp://www.londonstockexchange.com/LSECWS/...&source=RNS I don't think it says either way, most likely it will go through. Gordons announcement was after this one. Edited September 17, 2008 by Nicholas Cage Quote

chichi Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 So how much would they have to give a bank to take over another bank? Would it be less than bailing out the mess directly? Quote
Willy Weasel Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Just been thinking about the BoE's announcement that the current liquidity scheme has been extended. In other words there has been no extension of the assets that can be swapped. I'm not sure this was what Lloyds TSB was looking for when Peston mentioned the deal was conditional upon a permanent successor to the current scheme. Anyone who understands these things better than me care to comment? Quote
Realistbear Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 "Both boards met this morning and are meeting again tonight to give their approval." According to BBC Gordon may have to recall Parliament as his actions are technically illegal and contravene various pieces of legislation regarding competition, bribery, extortion and threats to cause GBH.
