Not available yet but here's the iPlayer link:

I thought Jonathan Davis (or FP/Financial Planner, as we old-timers on here know him) started to sound a bit nutty towards the end, but the presenter gave him plenty of time to speak, and the important thing is that he had the last word on that programme, and the last word was (forgive my précis of it) ‘if you buy a house now, you’re going to hell!’

I'm afraid even though I agree with what JD says, his style has become more eccentric over the years.

Some media training would not go amiss. Sentence...pause...sentence

Its like someone who is given 5 minutes of airtime every year and they are going to fit in every last word they can. It comes across as a bit ranting.

Fair play to Money Box for having the debate in the first place. Always a good listen.

Have to agree. The pitch of his voice seems to rise along with the velocity as the piece goes on.

If JD spoke in a boring measured tone nobody would remember him. When you are on TV you have to try stand out a bit.

Who is the producer of a program going to get for their next gig? "Who was that boring bloke... what was his name?" or "I know I'll get that ranting loon.... Jonathan Davis". (No offence intended).

I think he should try even harder, wave his arms about a lot, wear the same funny hat or glasses every time he is on. He needs a gimmick to get with the celeb culture to have more chances of getting a gig. John McCririck has done a deerstalker what about a red bowler?

Simply put he'll do it as he wishes and as he sees fit. He always has and he hopes he always will.

Most will see this as arrogant. Some will see it as independent.

The fact is, who else is there?

First bloke on was excellent.

Failure in responding to demand by building social housing.

As with many issues, we're reaping the results of policies initiated in the 80s.

Govt. needs to borrow $billions at negative real rates, put the millions of unemployed to work and build a few million social houses.

Bovis saleswoman "Innovative" Grantley must have had a quiver in his pants at that.

Brilliant, especially the finish to the show.

Thank you.

Listening now.

Just heard Paul Lewis say that "Many who rent as we heard do aspire to buy, but falling prices and tight mortgage lending make that a more expensive choice" 11mins 3 secs HUH? WTF??

Total nonsense so far. More demand than supply. Shared equity schemes. Total bulls**t!

Oh and the guy who's going to buy works as a restaurant manager in a university!!! How many students can afford to 'eat out'? Total bubble job.

Used to live in Great Barr as a kid. The hospital site mentioned where Bovis are selling homes used to be St Margaret's - a mental hospital/institution. Ironic, as anyone willing to pay £260k to live in such a dump - dissected by the M6 - must be certifiable.

Probably means what we used to call a canteen. Which in a university is often subsidised by the student bar(s).

I also noticed that, and can only attribute it to the programme being live. Most of what Paul Lewis said was pretty sensible, so I can only imagine that ‘falling prices … make that a more expensive choice’ was a slip-up. Although, of course, if you did buy your first home now, and prices fell for the next few years, you may well lose your deposit and a lot more besides, so in that regard falling prices could be considered as making buying more expensive, at least in the long run.

I would advise those lottery winners to buy if they wanted to. I guess they will escape purgatory.

You said he was excellent, and then you say he wants social housing? With so much demand for housing, why not let the market do it? Subsidised homes for single mums and labour cronies, and easy profits for housing association big wigs is more failed socialism paid for through higher taxes on productive people, not a great incentive to succeed.

Why do people want the soviet style of housing allocation so much? Any comrade care to explain?

Perhaps red braces would be good on the radio too?

Heard the programme, JD/FP is always worth listening to, his advice in previous years saved us £40-50K by STR, thank you JD.

So pleased we discovered HPC and sold up before the big fall in values.

JD is the man concerning property value direction, not the stupid VI they had on that programme, mentioning 95% mortgages witha building society I'd never heard of before.

Building societies are unwilling to lend 80/85% of a house 'value' because they expect them to FALL 20% in value, it's so simple!
