Of course. But the Russian have deployed a front of several hundreds miles. The Ukrainians cannot simply cover the whole line.

In the South the Russians could at any moment try to seize Melitopol, from there the way to Dnipro is open through  Zaporizzja. In the East, there’s a 15 mile escape route for the Ukrainians troops there deployed. Around 60% of the entire Ukrainian army is fighting there and the Russians are closing the gap from north and south. There are also miles unguarded further north, just south of Charkiv.

The problem with sending weapons is that you need to train people. Soldiers are all deployed on the front, if you train them they cannot fight.

As I said, and I am not a troll, the situation is extremely complicated for the defenders from what I see on the ground.

Russia is succeeding in the East because they flatten enemy areas from afar using artillery, then send troops in to mop up. IF Ukraine can outrange them and destroy the Russian artillery then it changes the balance. Russia has truck loads of artillery, so all depends if Ukraine can get enough to outgun them. This war is not decided one way or another yet.

"Would that be the plan to continue with total slaughter until everyone's dead except Field Marshal Haig, Lady Haig and their tortoise, Alan?"

"Great Scott!" exclaims Melchett. "Even you know it!"

I thought Russian journo's were tightly controlled? Was this live?

I don't think Russia is like North Korea. If a journalist want to post something he can do. Its not breaking any Russian laws.

Yeah, but at the same time if he's loyal to the regime why would he?

True, not breaking any laws, but more likely to find themselves on the wrong end of a poison tipped umbrella than a Western reporter.

I'm starting to wonder if the MI6 suggestion that Putin could already be dead is true?

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/vladimir-putin-dead-russia-ukraine-27093054.amp

You can still access RT.com and there is a distinct lack of Putin news and photos recently- i.e. the last 10 days.

Just a few statements on economics ( US money printing) and food supply with stock photos. Whilst this might be interesting to HPC and economists, it seems the topics are just Kremlin functionary press releases.

Ukraine lifts interest rate to highest in Europe

Ukraine's central bank has more than doubled its interest rate to 25%. The move is intended to slow soaring inflation and prevent a further collapse of its currency.

The World Bank predicts that Ukraine's economy could shrink by as much as 45% this year. The rate of inflation - or the cost of living - has risen to 17% in Ukraine and is on track to hit 20% this year.

The National Bank of Ukraine said the benchmark interest rate increase - from 10% to 25% - would help protect citizens' savings from being eaten by soaring inflation.

Nearly all corporate and retail loans in the territories that are still occupied will be lost

Banks have been forced to accept that loans made to businesses in territory now controlled by Russia will probably never be repaid, another huge financial blow to the country's economy.

"The most likely scenario is that nearly all corporate and retail loans in the territories that are still occupied will be lost," said Vitaliy Vavryshchuk, head of macro research at asset manager Investment Capital Ukraine.

Russian holy elite realises their military has ground to a halt. Now they will have to face increasing Western long range artillery which they have no answer too.

Ukraine is a long way from being able to counterattack. Russia has effective air superiority in defense. We need to give them medium range SAM's and ideally f16's.

Lets wait and see the impact of the new American missiles, my feeling is they will improve things dramatically as they can strike and move quickly.  I can see these moving up and down the front like predators picking off Russian old and rusty artillery.  Russian jets and helicopters would have to get uncomfortably close to do anything about it.
