I suspect this is an under estimate, non of the politicos have the balls to steal investement flats from thier Chinese overlords, it's just virtue signalling and nothing more.

Its really the perfect storm.

Massive cuts in public services without the immigration policy to stop the flood.

An angry population who are desperate enough to start taking matters into their own hands.

A complacent and corrupt government of idiots who can't see how policy or lack of it has created the mess we now have.

Working people who can't even afford the most basic secure shelter but are still expected to work long hours for low pay and then give whatever they have to slumlords and BTL parasites just for a roof.

I would be seriously worried if I had alot of investment in London right now, or even the UK for that matter.

This is now what we face.

Much trouble to come to the UK.

Lets not forget the divide along religous/cultural grounds that actual British people now fear, I suspect the British people will stomp on this before the balance gets near 50/50

and lots of people having to live crammed together in high rise tower blocks that they've suddenly realised have been clad effectively with firelighters.

It might help the coming "Occupy" action that can go hand in hand with the summer riots and McDonnells call for a million to march on Parliament.

Empty homes used to get a council tax discount for six to 12 months - so people had an incentive to report them. That exemption has been removed since 2013 by most councils - so a key data source has been lost.

long term empty homes - more than 2 years - are also liable to a 50 per cent premium on their tax bill. However if the property is furnished owners don't have to pay the premium.

It's way too little. A minimum 1% land value tax would be a start. In K&C alone it would remove the need for council tax from ordinary residents.

that is about the only genuine placard there ! and I totally agree with its sentiment

the rest of the rent-a-mob seem to be  'socialist worker' carrying 'tories out' re-usable placards for any march/protest regardless of the facts. 

it is very sad and tragic what has happened, but the making of political capital out of it is very distasteful and makes me desapir for the powers that be in this country.

My personal opinion is, if you buy a property, you should be able to do exactly what you want with it.  Whether it is leaving it empty or not.

 

I do find it funny though that people from around the world bought London property without researching how stable Britain really was.  Surely they must have seen dodgy council estates only a stones throw away from their multiple million pound investment.  Did they not think those people could turn on them?  You would have thought the 2011 riots would be a clue.

What makes you think that? I studied the photo fairly carefully but I can't read the text on all the placards. The ones on which the text is in fact legible all read "Justice for Grenfell" which cannot be described as generic from a re-usable pool.Seems a little harsh to describe genuinely grieving people as a rent-a-mob.

Agree about the placards however the protests are being led by the corbynistas/momentum. People need time to grieve which this politicisation isn't allowing. Shame on all sides of the political classes.
