  1. Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but spare a thought for those landlords who have bills inclusive, who aren't protected by the price cap because they're a business. 300% increase. Hahahahahahahahahahaha
  2. I dunno. I think we should watch what they do. There are already communications coming out that Sunak wants to return to "fiscal discipline". So those are the (electorate pleasing) words. If the actions are actually print a shed load more funny money, then there's the answer. I'm not so sure about the armageddon side of things. Not sure why, because HPCers are pretty prescient bunch. However, contrary to popular belief, we don't generally predict house price falls, we just know that they are artificially high, because of particular interventions. Similarly, I don't think we should predict societal collapse, but we should look at the many indicators that lead us to an artificially-stimulated economy. Like one poster above said, if the artifice falls away, then I suggest 1970s rather than Mad Max.
  3. https://www.ft.com/content/f5849bfe-00a8-4ea0-a6cf-70f34655d484 Don't panic!
  4. "Not my fault my house has gone up in value" i.e. I admit I did nothing. No "hard work". No avoiding smartphone purchases. Nothing to do with avocados.
  5. Now I don't get your point, sorry! Some guy was arguing that "races" were different. I was just pointing out that they arent.
  6. I don't know why I got involved in this! I am just trying to explain science to people - there are loads of articles about it. But no, that classification doesn't inherently exist and that is the whole point - it's a social classification, it has been made up by us humans as part of our classification of the world. Genetically, things are complex leading geneticists and social scientists to state that there is no such thing as race. I think I'll just have to post a link to people who can explain it far better than me: https://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2017/science-genetics-reshaping-race-debate-21st-century/
  7. Haha maybe a bit off topic - ok, so there is a myth that "black people" somehow relates to their genetics. It doesn't. It's a cultural category. It has nothing to do with their biological makeup. This is a simplified example, in reality things are far more complex: You have a black friend. You have some idea about his background, but he might have a Scottish ancestor. Some other black guy doesn't have a Scottish ancestor, but a Chinese ancestor. But they happen to look pretty similar. This is EXACTLY THE SAME as someone from Kenya having an ancestor from Nigeria. So, the reality is that EVERYONE has an individual genetic makeup, and the labels we put onto people are just that, labels. It has nothing to do with their biology. Skin colour is something that humans classify for some reason - we classify it. The classification doesn't inherently exist. Let's switch it around. Whatever you look like, you have black ancestors. We all do. What does that make us? The answer for me is I have white skin, so people call me white, but the history is complex. Race doesn't exist, because we are far to complex for that notion.
  8. That's an interesting point - his heritage stayed the same but that heritage is always very complex. His genetics would be particular to him, as it is to everyone. Nobody is just "black".
  9. "There was something in the air that night" The soundtrack to the apocalypse. I can just imagine it being played to the footage of bankers being led away in cuffs on a forthcoming Adam Curtis documentary
  10. https://www.lloydsbankinggroup.com/media/press-releases/2021/lloyds-banking-group/citra-living-barratt-developments-housing-partnership.html This is the game
  11. Exactly this. The idea of Lloyds buying up Victorian 3 bed semis in various states of disrepair would be laughable
  12. Nobody is born of a race. People have a n appearance. I would say you cant change your appearance, but Michael Jackson had a good go!
  13. Nothing to see here. We remain vigilant, 15% p.a. totally normal, and definitely sustainable.
  14. The Express has a poll running, essentially Thatcher v Johnson. When he loses that poll dramatically, this will fade away.
  15. Same will happen on care tax, I don't know why they bother announcing such things, just DO SOMETHING (of course it's obvious why they announce such things - crooks)
  16. Look, everyone will just vote for who they always vote for!
  17. 2 things: 1: The plan will be tweaked in the coming weeks. 2: People will still have to sell their stuff.
