Confiscate the phones of children they like the look of to search for naughty pics or videos. Another boneheaded move by those that know what's best for us all. I've noticed kids getting phones earlier and earlier. Went along with a mate to pick up her 8 year old after school and all the kids were playing with iPhones and Galaxies etc. You're ******ing 8 years old! What do you need a £400 phone for? Technically, if you are a child, yes. In the case of a selfie, you have "made" a picture of a child (yourself). If the photo was taken by someone else, then presumably they can be convicted as well - one person for "making" and the phone's owner for "possession". Any legal bods here to comment? If the child is in school any "emergency" messages can be phoned into the school (like they used to be before mobiles) and the child informed/taken out of class. Seem to remember mobile phones were once the preserve of adults, then post waveband sell-offs for mega amounts of money (thanks Gordon), SMS messaging took off and a whole new market emerged - kids. Texts became big business and the phone for some reason indispensable to children (safety was the sell). Now everyone has a phone - even 7 year olds (in school). At best all they are is a distraction, it must be a nightmare for teachers to get any kids to pay attention. I work in a college and most lunch breaks you see groups of students all fiddling around on and staring at their phones barely communicating with each other it is rather sad. Teenagers can be very self-conscious, shy and awkward. It takes an effort of will to talk to strangers. Yet they don't want to appear to be an isolated loner just stood there not talking to anybody. So bring on the magic phone: things to distract you, to make you smile, make you appear busy and self-contained to others. It must be destroying social skills. I have been on a steady curve from awkward and gauche to happily chat to anybody and usually make them laugh. That has come about from a vast number of social interactions; phones are stopping those interactions and hence skills developing. When interviewing younger candidates some are as chipper as teenagers ever were but others are barely articulate and have the manner of somebody five years younger. No need for mobile phones in school and heaven knows that they're an absolute bloody disaster, bringing kids up who are unable to cope without them instead of them just being a useful tool every now and then (enough adults seem to have the same attitude mind you).
