Wars seem to correlate with interest rate changes. Perhaps interest rates go up if a participant in warfare needs to purchase things on the open international market using foreign currency... but, for a self-sufficient country, with their own currency, perhaps war would correlate with a falling interest rate? Whose interest rate do you envision going up by 2%? America's? Iran's? Israel's?

I’ve been signed up to these alerts for around 15 years, and even though I’m long past going anywhere near them again, I’ve left the alerts in place. I remember being in the JW Marriott in Cairo in 2013 when Mohamed Morsi was overthrown. That was interesting, not.. Are you able to give more detail? It was quite a while ago now, but basically I was over there with a few others, working on engineering projects for a large global blue-chip. Cairo is pretty hairy at the best of times, but when it all kicked off, with huge gatherings, riots, smoke billowing everywhere and eventually soldiers and tanks on the streets and surrounding the hotel, with helicopters buzzing above and the almost constant sounds of gunfire and explosions, it became very real very quickly. We ended up being barricaded in the hotel for almost a week before ‘safe’ transit to the airport and a flight out was achieved, and even that was a scary experience. How these journo’s do it day in day out in war zones amazes me. I mean why would you. Adrenaline junkies or fanatical for the cause can be the only explanations. Our ‘safe’ transit from the hotel to the airport was in a ‘bulletproof’ vehicle, with a few armed escort vehicles. I think when they said ‘bulletproof’ they were referring to something reliable as it was a beat-up Toyota Land Cruiser.. 😆 They were obviously local security contractors (/militia) hired to get us out, and I remember thinking “I hope they’re paying them enough..” as it is not unheard of for foreign/Western “high value” engineers to get kidnapped and go missing for a ransom, certainly back then it seemed common. Arrival near and at the airport was absolute chaos, with thousands, perhaps tens of thousands trying to flee, and once we’d made it through the army checkpoints, of which there were several, and each time the officer would run away with your passport, spend several minutes chuntering in Arabic (of which I had learned a little..) with several others, raised voices, almost as if they were deciding who was to be let out and who was not. Then, eventually within the airport grounds, getting through the sea of beggars forcefully asking for money was relative ease, but still unsettling. Only when I was finally in the BA lounge, looking out across the airport, with several UN-marked aircraft on the tarmac, with adrenaline subsiding did the feeling of absolute relief hit home. I did a full, blow-by-blow thread on another forum, live, as everything was happening, with photos and videos. If I can find it again I’ll post a link. Sackboii, News at Ten, reliving Escape from Cairo.. 😄 This sums it up perfectly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cwyq3XWeHE Edited April 13 by Sackboii

NoHPCinTheUK
So the only access to the sea for Israel is now the Med? I don’t think they have enough ships to re-open the routes.

Social Justice League
Israel should have reigned it in sooner ffs. F4cking idiots and America and the UK are both to blame just as much as Israel for this 'situation', imo. If Iran wipes out Israel, they can only blame themselves and us. I don't think Iran would be so rash. Israeli doctrine is for a massive nuclear strike if their existence is at stake.
