renting til I die
Interesting response. It is what it is AND it's better than rises. Much better. 10 years. Just throwing my toys out of the pram! Yes, it is better than rises but I would like to see a sea-change shift in sentiment, aka Spain or Greece. Seems all we will get is a few slightly disappointed sellers who don't get as much as they would like when they come to sell.
Killer Bunny
We are outside of ECB and we live in a bankocracy. Little / nothing will change here till Global 2008Mark2 comes when they can't slash rates. My guess is Recession turns Depressionary. #turningjapanese
Fairyland
I want to know if this is new EA marketing style or repossessed properties? They are priced low and then offers invited by some date (2-3 weeks). Here are some examples: 1) http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-50147812.html 2) http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-34832853.html 3) http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-50147815.html Don't know if I am concluding very early but makes me think are repossessions on rise? Fairyland
I have said it before and I will say it again...I do not believe the price of this RUBBISH. What the hell is wrong with people in the UK? I would just about pay 30k for any of them. Tell me about it. I go to see houses and my blood boils to see the expensive rubbish. But some people buy and pay for it. 20-30% over last year's price seems to be norm. The linked ones are still reasonably priced. How long this will continue… who knows?? Look at this - http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-52458290.html I admit the decor is good but it is not even two complete bedrooms. Sold in 2 days unless it is an EA trick. May be some buyers don't care if the house sis well priced or not. 'If you can afford it get it' is their motto.

Killer Bunny
Not sure what this means but guessing not positive for market: Just 18 homes (mostly flats) sold in Hoddesdon/Broxbourne in April.Population 30-40,000. Seems v low. Spring bounce? HAHAHAHA Added: There are 7 EAs with physical offices and a further couple online only. For 18 average priced sales... TheCountOfNowhere
Looks like something is afoot In Northants now. LOADs of sales falling through today and lots of price reduction, it looks like carnage. It was about 20% of listings were sales falling through for the first 5 or 6 pages then it turned into lots of price drops. This is my favourite though: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-50463275.html?premiumA=true Asking price 800K....just fallen through. These houses were selling for 550K in 2007....last year the land registrty was putting then at 400-450K. Now some idiot wanted to pay £300K more than it's worth. This might be a sign the London sales volume collapse is now affecting the shires. It's disgraceful that the london bubble has been allowed to skew the housing market so massively. The best bit is, they are going to build a housing estate behind that estate and some of it is on a flood plain. With craziness like that, nothing will convince me otherwise that the housing market in the UK is collapsing and has been manipulated in the run up to the election. The British government was talking about corruption in FIFA, maybe it's time the police investigated corruption in Downing street. shindigger
This thread seems to have developed a late 70s schoolyard top trumps mentality. My drops are bigger than your drops etc. I'm seeing widespread, post election, reductions all over my patch of north Dorset for the record. Assume The Opposite
In Northamptonshire where I am, several flats went up for auction near my place in Kettering. £37,000 asking price. It seemed a very reasonable price, possibly too reasonable. Turns out the developer built it all, went bankrupt, and it doesn't meet building codes, electrics included. The metal windows aren't safe either. The flats look nice though, funnily enough. Looking at the documents from the auction house, all the flats have been stung with various service charges for the work to make it legal. There is still the electrics to do as well as the windows. The cheapest quote for the electric alone divided by 24 flats would be thousands. Three of the flats went for auction and none sold. Another auction house did sell one a few days ago (with a sitting tenant), but this documentation didn't have all the information as the other auction house. It did sound attractive at first, £37,000, sitting tenant paying £540 pcm etc. God help the buyer if they haven't realised the upcoming service costs for work that needs doing!
