right_freds_dead
Are you saying that Kirsty and other presenters woke up one morning and decided to engineer a massive property boom? How could she do that if she's as dim as people seem to think? that IS more or less whats happened. she is just the gushy face of the developers THAT ARE THE PR6DUCTION EXECUTIVES behind the location program. IT IS made and backed by property development company. that is a fact. now. how ripped off do you feel ?

John51
There will always be pyramid schemes but there is now a pyramid scheme mentality in regard to home ownership and Kirsty was merely preaching to the choir. Take the profit out of the house purchase equation and the number of potential buyers drops like a stone. There are a few here looking to buy knowing that they'll probably take a hit but they're looking for a home and are prepared to pay a premium for a place that ticks all their boxes. Good luck to them, their quality of life has come before profit.
right_freds_dead
About as daft as when I realised the best song doesn't always win the Eurovision Song Contest. this is more serious. because of this, many people in the uk either got into massive debt, or put their lives on hold. behind the hype lies a number of sleezy property investment companies. it totally stinks. i think this needs a lot of digging in the future and we need to get behind the people who were producing programs which went out on the bbc. people like crsty are just presenters. not to blame. the program makers are too blame and in particular id like to see the bbc lose its fee. its certainly not a public service. its vested and deeply corrupted and needs publicly investigating. while it was booming no one cared to look. once TSHTF theres going to be a lot of angry people not wanting to shell out £160 per year on misinformation, corruption, un truths and spin. all geared to whatever the program makers had their investments in. hopefully, it will all be on record and they can be tracked and checked to see if any contractural points have been breeched. hopefully resulting in some punitive fine laying, and or the removal of the license fee. yokel
If `sentiment' is a big factor in the property market, then Kirsty and Phil were two of the cheerleaders for positive sentiment - ie that we should all invest in the `property ladder'. They work for a property company, the programme is sponsored by a bank advertising mortgages and they make statements like `you won't lose money' and `this is a good investment'. The programme is now giving a totally misleading message. There are dates flashed up (eg `Summer 2006') but the fact that they use the present tense, I feel, drowns that out and when people hear things like `Back in West London, Jack and Jill need to act quickly in a rising market to buy their house on the hill' they don't all think `Yes, but that was two years ago and according to HPC.co.uk things have changed since then' For light relief: Mitchell and Webb's version of property porn: Y

headmelter
There's a nugget of truth in the impact that Stamp duty has. While prices go up, it's possible to pay the tax via 'equity' or extra debt. As soon as prices flat line or start falling, the tax has to be paid out of real money. It therefore serves to put a brake on transaction volume, and becomes a highly visible extra cost. I reckon therefore it will help make the current crash faster and more severe than in a no tax scenario. It's not the 1%, 3%, or 4% of stamp duty that makes the difference it's the 99%, 97%, or 96% of the rest of the total cost that is the problem. lulu
Is that Phil "pwwices will wise at least 10% in the next 18 months" Spencer (as seen on Tonight with T McDonald, Spring 2007) Its funny how it is Kirstie that gets most of the abuse both around here and in the press. Phil (whether this one is the 'real' Phil or not) seems to be slightly better at keeping his head down where appropriate so it is Kirstie who seems to be getting all the flak. Its only fair that he should be put under the same scrutiny as Allsop surely?
eric pebble
...........if people didn't have the money to spend hadn't been able to take out LIAR LOANS, then prices wouldn't have shot up. Lenders of LIAR LOANS are the problem, not TV property porn.

Greenstuff
Did anyone see LLL a few weeks back with the fireman she was drooling over? At one point she impatiently said if it suits your needs and you like it (words to that effect) why are you not sure? He started to say that he was worried about prices falling (on his lovely ex council flat) and she walked away frowning and spat 'you wont lose money on this!' Wonder if she'll put her money where her mouth is?...
applesauce
It may have dawned on that bald bonce that he's been parroting s**t for years. Ive not seen him interviewed as an economic expert on housing, and he hasn't tried to turn to politics as far as Im aware. The man is smart enough to know when to just shut the fk up. Kirsty isn't. Austin Allegro
From the comments: I see the HPC brigade have leapt on this and added their usual ridiculous comments. Yawn. I suspect you are all going to be very disappointed. phil, london, Not THE Phil, surely? Anyway, what's he on about. Sorry, is it still summer 2007, I must have lost track of time. Some properties have dropped 50% since peak already and they're not likely to be going up again for a while. Who exactly is 'disappointed' and what is 'Phil''s alternative view of the situation? newbonic
She is adviser to David Cameron.Jolly hockeysticks, what what? The tories do seem to be reverting to their old clichéd type of being a bunch of ex public school chaps n gals. Given her lack of real qualifications (in anything) I am beginning to have doubts about Cameron's judgement and choices - did he just think 'she's a celeb - the proles like celebs - we'll have her on board to impress 'em!', or even worse 'she's a true expert in housing policy' Edited July 18, 2008 by newp
Broken Holmes
Isn't it just wonderful that someone with no education or formal training in anything can just establish themselves as a commentator on matters as diverse as market economics, taxation policy and the merits of green technology? I wish someone would tell this bimbo to stick to what she's good at: appliquing cushions, matching paint swatches and having coffee mornings with her public school girlfriends. It's so obvious she is just some mindless Sloane so why is she pretending to have some level of policy expertise? The house price ramping thing doesn't bother me so much as she was just a dumb cog in the bigger wheel of property mania but I wish she would just STFU now instead of continuing to bore us with her schoolgirl opinions. Clearly she is trying to find a new career path but she's aiming far too high by trying to be a policy expert - that would require some level of education beyond hockey-playing and ballet classes. Thanks for that I just spat Shepards pie at my monitor Edited July 18, 2008 by Broken Holmes
