msi
UK job vacancies fall for eighth time in a row The number of jobs on offer between December and February fell by 51,000 compared with the three months before. Despite the drop, the number of job vacancies remains high at 1.1 million. There are also 328,000 more vacancies compared to the pre-pandemic period of between January and March 2020. The rate of economic inactivity - people aged between 16 to 64 who are not in work and not seeking a job - dipped to 21.3% between November and January. This was driven by younger people aged between 16 to 24 either getting jobs or looking for work. However, there are still nine million economically inactive Britons who are not part of the workforce either because they are students, have retired or are suffering from long-term illness. Nine million economically inactive doesn't mean inactive.....they might be caring for children, the elderly, working in the home or doing voluntary work.......not that long ago there were 10 million fewer people in the country......how did we cope? Economical inactive pay taxes.......some plenty of them. Edited March 14, 2023 by winkie

winkie
Now we are allowing high earners pay even more earnings into tax free pensions for their future.......one point eight million pounds......that can or should help support them and others in years to come ' hopefully' .......even fewer lower paid will bother to work for longer, 40/45% off is double or more than double 20% off .......house price inflation, why work when the house can pay......BTL why work when the rents will pay....... Nothing for the low paid renters.......they seem to be there to feed the already wealthy.......the benefit scroungers, sick and disabled, poorly educated or those born to those who have not been well educated, can afford good education or value education or hard work. fellow
John Lewis axes staff bonus and plans to cut jobs https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64945767.amp "John Lewis has axed its staff bonus for a second time and signalled job cuts are in the pipeline, after what it described as a "very tough year". The department store firm, which also owns Waitrose supermarkets, reported a £234m pre-tax loss. Partnership chair Dame Sharon White said the stores had attracted more customers, but they had spent less. She said the losses meant bonuses could not be issued this year for the second time since it began the scheme in 1953. Dame Sharon suggested the firm may have to reduce staff numbers, or "partners" as they are known at the company'.

Suspect the majority are employed in the (non profitable) warehousing and distribution networks which are spread across various countries worldwide. How many van drivers in the US alone? Then there are those who run the web space and cloud platforms - AWS. Still huge, but less people intensive and the real money earner.
