Pope Francis has warned against a rise in populism and the dangers of allowing political crises to usher in dictators like Hitler.

The Pope condemned the use of walls and barbed-wire to keep foreigners out.

Says man who lives in a heavily guarded enclave. I'll start listening to Frank when he ditches the trappings of Popehood and starts travelling from place to place on a donkey, helping people.

Until then he can keep his ample nose out of my business and I'll think what I want.

Democracy is when the people vote for who the elites want them to vote for, populism is when we step out of line.

That seems like a very good definition to me!

I suspect that populism will grow over Europe this year as election results roll in.

As for the pope, it's of no consequence to me and many others what he thinks while sitting in his palace being waited on.

Popey is a Franciscan, so we warms his own beans.

What's the difference between populism and democracy?

Demo

Latin[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

Etymology 1[edit]

From dē- (from, away from, out of) +‎ emō (I acquire, I obtain).

Verb[edit]

dēmō ‎(present infinitive dēmere, perfect active dēmpsī, supine dēmptum); third conjugation

  1. I remove, take away, or subtract

-cracy
krəsi/
combining form

  1. denoting a particular form of government, rule, or influence.
    "autocracy"

So democracy is when they take away your right of influence?

So he advocates unpopulism?  Advocates doing what the people don't want - on the basis of a vote?  Not listening -ignoring their opinion?  Some would say there's been enough of that already going back, at the very least, decades now.  Look where things are now.

It sounds so like Blair's Institute Against Populism (not for profit).
