Bossybabe
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-23248503 Not sure if the council was concerned at the racism, or at the fact that a black woman was running the café. Should we ask for clarification?
Frank Hovis
A spokesman for Wakefield Council said they were "obviously concerned" by the issue which they had not been made aware of before."I would urge the business involved to get in touch with us as soon as possible," the spokesman added. Why? What in the name of greek buggery can the council possibly do about it? Have an official stand outside and when anybody tries to leave without buying anything then arrest them? The Spaniard
Surely one of the local Diversity Outreach Coordinators can deal with this?
happy_renting
"They just open the door of my cafe and once they take a look at me they walk out." Hmm. We need a pic. Maybe it is not because she is black, but for some other reason. She does sound a bit chippy; hard to tell if that is justified.

@contradevian
My cafe is failing. I'm black. QED my cafe is failing because people are racist? How is the local curry house doing? EDIT: List of restaurants/take awyas in Ossett.... http://www.tripadvis...re_England.html Ossett is on one of my cycle runs, might have to call in! crashmonitor
Ossett is on one of my cycle runs, might have to call in! Indeed why do we pay £11.40 for a micro portion at some trendy restaurant because it's Thai. Indeed why did I pay five quid for their mushroom soup, a bit of coloured water with four mushrooms floating on top...... Emperor's clothes init. Executive Sadman
I've opened the door to a Cafe, or Pub before, had a look around and left because I didn't like the look of the place. If the owner happened to be black (or ginger, or Irish, or disabled, etc) could my actions have been misconstrued? Dont give them any ideas...they already violate our fundamental right of freedom of association by forcing you to serve anyone and everyone or by forcing you to employ anyone and everyone...just wait to they force you to consume from anyone and everyone. I dont see how forced integration is any less morally reprehensible than forced segregation.
Byron
So, some people are racist. What's new? That councillor saying that it has to be stamped out is just a leftie control freak. There is nothing he can do short of kidnapping people and making them go in the cafe.

The Masked Tulip
Does the place do a great brekkie for a fair price and is the place clean - those are my criteria for a caff. Edit: And no loud music.

ccc
What's the problem if it is because she is black ? All the chippies i go to in Edinburgh have Italian (background) owners. All the best ones have owners of this background. Not to say some Thai bloke or black burd couldn't do some nice fish and chips. However i would find it a little strange. I can make a mean curry - but if i opened an Indian restaurant and found people going elsewhere as i was the 'wrong colour' ? I would totally understand. This burd should let her food do the talking. A sign saying "forget how i may look - my fish and chips are the best in town - come in and see for yourself" would be far better. Unless her food is rank of course . . . Her sign just makes her look like a dick. And people will generally not give their money to a dick.

Bloo Loo
She should be asked to take that sign down. Smacks of racism to me. On her part . She should, like anyone else, be able to call a spade a spade. Yes, she is black....yes, she is prolly peed off people walk in and walk out mumbling about a black person. The sign is, in my opinion humerous and a reflection of what the woman thinks. Id certainly give the place a try, the owner clearly has a character. Avoid most Thai places like the plague because of this. Or if I forced to eat at one - I make sure I eat beforehand.

They are also the last group of restaurant owners in Britain who appear to know how to cook an omelette

Now, if I opened an "English, boiled beef and carrots" emporium in Sparkbrook, would I have to warn the local Bangladeshi derived people that I might be white? It's still a funny notice though!
