Steagle Colbeagle
We've only seen the very beginning of this, Daily Wail stories of Poles sending money home will them trivial...If the Northern Europeans don't send money down to the Southern Europeans, the Southern Europeans will simply come up and take it. Inevitable but so very obvious within a free trade region.

Goat
...if any of their economies crash they will head here...and blow the sinking ship out of the water.... Is this the new Greek bail out plan? Lend them the money to keep the economy afloat just until they can ship them all over here?

Redcellar
If this stands then the whole EU benefits system is wide open. You could get a bus, pack it with people and drive from country to country claiming benefits. Then start the whole thing again next week. Could be quite cost effective if you filled a bus. Bit of a giggle too. Great idea for students summer breaks. Tour of the EU welfare system. Better than interrailing.

nmarks
What this tells me is that the British Taxpayer is now liable to fund the lifestyle of any Tom, Dick or Harry from across the EU who decides to come here. That is insane.
TheCountOfNowhere
What this tells me is that the British Taxpayer is now liable to fund the lifestyle of any Tom, Dick or Harry from across the EU who decides to come here. That is insane. That's unsustainable and will only cause bigger issues. The country can't pay down it's current debt levels, adding a new bunch of immigrants taking and sending back to another country is madness. It's time the UK said Ta Ta to the EU. If a referendum was held now I think we'd be out.

plummet expert
The only place you can make a difference is at the voting booth , by voting for UKIP. I have come to think that the most important thing is for the UK to leave the EU, and only partake in the free trade area. Borders should be back. Democorruptcy
At least we are going to have a lot of friends all over Europe in case we ever need any help. We could be good for a few food parcels.

That is insane. This is trying to bring the UK in line with the rest of Europe. What makes you think that Europeans would want to come to the country with the worst quality of life and some of the lowest benefit levels in Europe? If you were an EU benefit tourist there are about 26 other countries you would try before setting foot in little England. If you were an EU benefit tourist there are about 26 other countries you would try before setting foot in little England. And yet this is where they come to. There is huge immigration into the UK, the actual figures are unknown but there is almost certainly way more than the official figures. You only need to go to any City centre to hear languages from all over Europe being spoken to know that this nation appears to be the destination of choice. You should try to get the state to pay for your home in France before you lecture us on UK benefits.
cartimandua51
Just might be a blessing in disguise - if you've got to pay foreign applicants the same as Brits, cut the basic Brit benefits right to the bone and make everything else discretionary and dependent on tough interviews & conditions. Cut translation services at the same time, to whatever is the level common in Germany, France & Spain.

Not significantly more so than other European countries. Yes, the EU has led to lots of migration - free movement of labour is one of its aims - but to suggest the UK is affected that disproportionately nowadays is ignorant, it was affected disproportionately for a while when other large countries were restricting work permits for Eastern Europeans, but that is a thing of the past. Germany and France both have about as many immigrants as a percentage of the population as the UK for example and net immigration to the southern EU (Spain, Italy etc.) is about twice the rate of UK immigration. thod
This is trying to bring the UK in line with the rest of Europe. How does it bring the UK into line? pilchardthecat
If a referendum was held now I think we'd be out. Which is why there won't be one. If the Germans or the French had a referendum they would be out of their own club too..... but then the EU has never been about Europe, and it's certainly not about the people in it. Charlie The Tramp Returns
Liberals right behind the EU Nick Clegg is a very dangerous Politician who would sell his Grandmother to further his political ambitions. I would bet one day he will be offered Rumpy or Barosso`s job. His position as Deputy PM has made him power mad. At the next election he will be past history and he knows it, hence lap up to the EU Nick lad and the gravy train will support you as a thank you for selling the British people down the river.
