The very fact that this newspaper exists and can write anti-government pieces, even in time of war, is a shining example of the freedom of speech that exists in Israel compared with the Arab countries - or indeed with many other Western countries!

Gaza war: Israeli government has Haaretz newspaper in its sights as it tightens screws on media freedom

The Israeli government is putting pressure on the left-leaning newspaper Haaretz to line up in support of the government in its conduct of the war in Gaza.

The communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, has suggested financial penalties be applied to the paper accusing it of “lying, defeatist propaganda” and “sabotaging Israel in wartime”. The proposal aims to cancel state subscriptions to the paper and “forbid the publication of official notices”.

In response, the Israeli Journalists’ Union called the move a “populistic proposal devoid of any feasibility of logic”.

In response to Karhi’s attacks on the newspaper, Haaretz’s publisher, Amos Schocken, accused the government of attempting “to stifle the free press in Israel”. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) he wrote: “When Netanyahu’s government wants to shut us down, it’s time to read Haaretz.”

LOL.

LOL.

BUT they are still free to publish as they wish.

That crucial point being completely lost on your tiny brain.

This is what anonguest is defending.

Sicko

This is no different to the British State collusion with Loyalist terrorists in the North of Ireland where they regularly facilitated UVF/UFF terror attacks , supplied the weapons and ensured a safe escape route. The famine where over a million starved to death wasn't because the potato crops got blight but because all the other food was shipped back to the UK. The reason there is no condemnation of Israel from the UK is because they have the same history of terror , of land grabs of using starvation as a weapon and imprisoning those they know are innocent of crimes . Worse than the lack of condemnation is the active participation in Israeli genocide by supplying the weapons and supporting psychopaths who openly state " the children of Gaza brought it upon themselves".  The UK is once again on the wrong side of history

Any country with the ability to put something into orbit can hit just about anywhere on Earth if it chooses!

If the science illiterate Guardian readers actually stopped to think before hacking away at their keyboards they would realise this too.

No sign of Israel...........sort of........not happening.

So israel is 0-2 down............

Bottled it? But then it did take Iran 13 days to carry out their response.

Exactly!

But it's even worse because unlike Iraq, Iran has not invaded any countries.

Again this is disingenuous the Iran-Iraq war proved so costly the Iranians decided to create and fund proxy groups instead of direct intervention & takeovers.

Talk to many Lebanese they consider they were invaded by Iran and Israel

Talk to many Iraqis and they see Iran as having tried to takeover their country by stealth

Many Yemenis see the war in their country as Iran & Gulf States having a fight in someone else's country so they don't damage their own.

You don't need to pour across a border with tanks and planes to do an invasion and takeover.

If there is no response, it will be the fist time since they came into existence. So I am expecting something from them sooner or later. There was a post on this thread wrt a one time opportunity to take out any emerging Iranian nuclear capability...I cant believe this is being overlooked in Israel, Washington, London, Paris...even in the UN and EU.

This kind of pathetic commentary is beneath you or should be. Its not a game

But it did take 13 days for Iran to respond and being too scared of your enemy to escalate is a genuine stance to take. I'm just asking the question which is the case, no retaliation or just biding their time?

Whereas your self righteous comment added nothing to the thread. Also strange that you picked on me rather than Maghull Mike's comment I was responding to in which he literally referred to it as a point scoring game.
