I couldn't care less about Teslas one way or the other. To be honest, I'm puzzled why anyone cares; it's just a car. More interested in people and their ridiculous self-justification.

True, nothing wrong with the car but the fanboys they attract are a curious lot.

It's not new to Tesla. Yuppies adopted porches, and bmw at one point attracted a certain type. All perfectly good cars but got lumbered with their fans 😐

Feel the love.

Saw an interesting interview with Musk today who admitted that if you own a Tesla then you have signed up to terms and conditions that your car could be used in a future Tesla robotaxi network, but prevents you from participating in any other network. Who knew ?

Correct, but this goes beyond getting your car keyed. Who ever did that has a deep hatred for tesla. What i am getting at is that for every fanboy there are probably a multitude of haters.

It's the cult ownership i find fascinating.

April-2023-best-sellers_cars.thumb.png.50d5dae130b903d638a3a145dc59c928.pngModel Y didn't even make the top 10 in April 😬 less than 2300 sales oh dear...

And still no sign of the model 3 anywhere either monthly or YTD so less than 10,400 M3's sold in the UK so far in 2023 😂

Looks like Tesla could be the betamax of future cars. No wonder they are frantically dropping prices and scrapping RHD for some models. Demand is obviously non existant other than the fanboi's replacing old for new 😂

So the model Y numbers are very high in March and then drop off the Top 10.  Almost certainly related to March being the month for new registration numbers.  People of a certain type rush to have the latest plate, they're generally the same type who buy what they perceive to be the latest status symbol items too so this actually makes total sense to me.  Will be interesting to see if the same happens in September

Or it could just be the company car cycle.

Has happened many times - production in China and rhythms of European deliveries focussed on quarter end.

And yet the fanbois used said data to "prove" Model Y was best selling car in the UK. 😂

Talk about cherry picking data.

So which was it in march then?

Was it production rhythms of deliveries or was it because it was the top selling car of march?

The fanboi clown car dream is over. Musks grift has been exposed and no one (with a functioning brain) is buying it any more. Game over simps. 🤡🤡🤡🤡

BREAKING: For the first time ever, the @Tesla  Model Y was the best-selling car in the world in Q1 (2023), according to JATO data for 53 markets worldwide.

This would be the first EV to ever achieve this feat.

LOL lets see if it holds out.

Besides you are forgetting just how much the EV market is subsidised. Hardly an achievement to beat ICE cars when EV's are subsidised so heavily while ICE is taxed into oblivion FFS.

Had GOV gave everyone tax incentives to buy a betamax while taxing the sh*t out of VHS i'm sure betamax would've been a best seller too.

In a free market EV's lose.

Besides who give's a f*ck about other countries? Most of those sales will be in the US. Tesla is nowhere near number one seller in the UK.

In your vision of free market, negative externalities are a myth?

Just been doing a bit of minor maintenance on my 13yr old ICE car. It has dawned on me as ICE cars get older they need more tlc but fundamentally there easily 15years in them with only a cambelt failure the big ICE killer.

What happens to decade old EVs? Many of the same minor wear and tear will be there, but if the battery is beyond it's useful life that's a major stumbling block for the car having a useful extended life.

Nah we just need to keep replacing our cars every 3-4 years like the well off do. It's still better for the environment than a car that emits plant food as you drive around. Besides net zero is gonna make us all uber rich with jobs in renewables, free energy and EV's for all.

Wrong again. Year to date they are in the mix - https://www.teslarati.com/electric-vehicle-sales-u-k-record-highs-march-2023-tesla-model-y/

Batteries in modern EVs lasting well beyond 3-4 years (Model S, Model X and older Model 3s). And from a mileage point of view: many hundreds of thousands of miles, most often with less than 10% degredation (esp for Model 3, and the Model Y uses the sama balance of battery technologies across their range).

3-4 still sounds short though compared to the rest of the cars lifetime.   Even with dud batteries older cars could happily do the school run or short commutes in later life though. My point was ICE cars don't have this single issue excess degradation problem.

FTFY.  Genuinely well off people are usually much less overt; at least the British ones are.

That's because it is just a made up number.

Most Tesla's EV batteries are going strong with even the very earliest passing 200k miles before dropping to 70% of their original power. The later post 2016 ones are looking like they will be good for 500k miles

The newest tech LFP batteries now being put in most Teslas, and also used by several other firms, are forecast to last over 20 years in car use and another +20 years in less demanding applications like energy storage or UPS systems.

NB ICE engines probably degrade faster. Have you not seen any of the old Top Gear pieces where they put 20yr old supercars on a dyno to see just how many of the horses have run off.

Pennies compared to the fossil fuel subsidies of $5.9 trillion a year     https://www.imf.org/en/Topics/climate-change/energy-subsidies

Not far behind Model Y 11.5k sales this year v 14.k for the Corsa.

In revenue terms the Model Y is already number 1 and pulling away.

NB They are more expensive in the UK because RHDs are currently imported from China and tarrifs need to be paid.

Once Berlin starts producing RHDs we will see a 10% price cut on top of the coming price cuts in Europe.

Tesla are not a success and never will be. Clown cars like Tesla have been around since the late 19th Century and never caught on. Well why would something catch on that is less benefitial to the consumer (like have to waste hours on end while it charges up when an ICE can be topped up in 5 minutes flat). UNLESS it has been heavily subsidised and restcited areas against ICE usage is to promote sales of said clown car.

Clown cars are a joke. End of.
