There was a way until late last year, when Bircoin ETPs were still SIPPable and ISAable.

Now it will involve you moving abroad to a favourable jurisdiction, to cash out. A complete break with the UK for maybe 6 years.

Isle of Man / Channel Islands

Portugal

maybe Germany

maybe others...

It completely makes sense if you are sitting on large six or seven figure gains. I am a New Zealand perm resident, and there are some very favourable laws for newly arrived residents when it comes to things like this. It’s all a bit of a moot point for me though. I tried to get in at 17k, prayed about it, and the app I was using wouldn’t work, and took that as a sign! Personally I feel better off not watching the flipping price every 5 seconds which is precisely what would have happened if I’d lobbed 10k in...InsteadI only look at the price a couple of times a day and sulk :)

I know I mentioned it yesterday, but I seriously recommend mining at the moment if you’ve got a decent GPU or three.

It’s stacking sats like nobodies business and a perfect method of dollar cost averaging. It’s only £14 a day in my case, but that’ll add up.

£14 / day profit? Or break even?

Nope - a plant 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s what she wanted 😂

she’s not exactly a believer. I remember when we first met in early 2017, in the early throws of love she told me her worries about how we would cope long term with life and it’s challenges.

I said ‘don’t worry darling, I’ve got bitcoin!!’ - the price then was around $1300 - it had just passed 1oz gold/1btc.

she looked at me like I was utterly bonkers (she’d never heard of it), and which I sort of am.

Especially as my next statement was ‘and some ethereum too - just in case’.

Still today, at 37x the price of btc, and probably 100x the eth price, me spending a few pence on leccy worries her 😁 I appreciate that - she’s way more cautious and risk adverse on finance than me, which overall is no bad thing in combination with my messed up brain.

Sounds like a good match.  Always go for someone who is careful financially, less stress, but likes quality, at the right time.

It’s seriously profitable. I have expensive electricity in this house for now - 20p/kWh even at night (switching tariffs soon).

Even then, it’s costing < 1 unit/ h to run the three PCs. I’ve been measuring our consumption over the last few days.

So max £2 per day to end up with £14 worth of btc should I choose to run them full pelt.

the gpus I’m not counting really as a cost admittedly - they were a sunk cost as I was building the PCs for gaming, not mining. I was also *extremely* lucky to get them all for rrp. Tbh right now I could flog each of them for double the price paid which would be a much better return, but like I said, I bought them because I and the kids wanted gaming machines.

Is profit on Bitcoin subject to CGT, and if so, is there a way to avoid it?

Sell less than £12k pa, or move abroad for 4 years and live and become a tax resident there to cash out. After 4 years you can return to the Uk and redomicile your money no CGT due.

You should be able to sell more than £12.3k without paying tax.

The amount of BTC you can sell tax-free s £12.3k / (£CURRENT_BTC_PRICE - £AVERAGE_BTC_PRICE_PAID)

and in £ terms that's the above value * £CURRENT_BTC_PRICE

When all your taxable buy in was 2013 under $500 you have 99% profit, and getting higher every $10k increase!

That's v impressive and I agree re: disruption.  I say this not as an individual with knowledge of specialist areas but based on following debates on here, which I continue to learn from, my own research, and the progress of BTC since 2009 - the Internet is a powerful tool. The pandemic has only brought to the fore what was already known by many (but ignored) about the economy.

I see you you have a pretty impressive resume relevant to BTC so your decision is rational as can be. So my judgement has been right to  follow your posts and select others with care including doubters such as @longgone(amuses rather than irritates me now 😁) as challenges are important too.  However, I've yet to see one that has succeeded based on evidence. 🤔

I've read the white paper (obviously without really understanding what it means 🙄) but what astounds me is why it is so short yet no one previously arrived at the same position Satoshi Nakamoto!  For me, it means they were (are) simply a genius be it an individual or a group. 💥

LOL

prepare for heavy loses and taxes soon. rishi will be looking to ways to make up for their stupidity also know as the contracts for friends policy.

$50k

29 hours later than my prediction, dammit. That's an additional day and a half at work before I can retire on my Bitcoin gainz 😠

Life just keeps throwing up these obstacles, but perseverence will win through.

Only closed above $50k on the 5 min chart. Still it has sold above $50k, will be happier when it closes the daily above $50k.
