I t has a good score (6.1 which is good for IMDB) on IMDB from 235 reviews. The "Apache" Indians are actually lifeguards from the beach at Santa Monica, California, painted with full body paint and made up to look like Apaches. Director Hugo Fregonese and producer Val Lewton wanted the Apaches to do a lot of leaping from high windows, off of roofs, etc., and the film's budget precluded hiring stuntmen to play the Apaches. They decided to hire the lifeguards because of their athleticism and, more importantly, the fact that they didn't have to get stuntmen's pay. # I think "Dorian Gray" 2009 is on Film 4 at the moment. Not a bad remake.

I love that film if only for the bit towards the end when, surrounded by the Indians the entire town begins to 'Men of Harlech' - in Welsh!!! Oddly enough, their miming of Welsh is pretty appalling - almost as bad as 90% of the Welsh population!
DeepLurker
Most remakes are dire. Especially Sci Fi ones. I can't think of a decent Sci Fi remake off the top of my head. Solaris. PS But definitely not a Sunday Afternoon film.

Was their miming worse than John Redwood's famous gaffe?

dances with sheeple
The Exterminator. Supposedly the lead actor (now dead, as are the other two main male actors) played drums? in his youth with hendrix, joplin, santana and someone else who I forget. Saving For a Space Ship
Solaris. PS But definitely not a Sunday Afternoon film. Don't know about better than the original . More of a Sunday one than Tarkovsky's 'Stalker' perhaps, which I heartily recommend after several cups of coffee to endure it's length. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUoog4wd8j8

The Masked Tulip
Some of these are not Sunday afternoon films. If they ain't singing and dancing or it does not involve midget submarines, lancaster bombers, hurricanes or warships... or cowboys... it ain't a Saturday afternoon film.
