juvenal
In a deft sideways media move, our busty heroine no longer shows people how to do up and flog houses. Now she's a renovation guru, helping those with major problems with renovating homes they want to live in. Just a bit more useful than Krusty's move from property ramper to teaching us how to make Xmas decorations, I suppose

deflation
This and then the Deep on BBC1 at 9:00, last week's was OK, so a decent evening I hope. Edit: from the Radio Times online - Try to ignore the Hammer horror stuff (light bulbs swinging in a darkened room, stormy skies, mournful music and such like), which initially makes it difficult to take this seriously, because there are handy hints and Nick and Becky's DIY "journey" is interesting to watch. As is Beeny's changing figure because, like several times during Property Ladder, she was pregnant during filming. Another kid! Authoritarian
I really don't know why HPCers have a problem with the lovely Sarah Beeny. From what I remember, pretty much every show she warned of the dangers of relying on a rising market for profit, and when 'developers' did only gain because of the boom she let them know. It's a shame that those that really add value get tarred with the same brush as bone fide property spivs. Edited August 10, 2010 by Chef
deflation
A very pregnant Beeney is carrying deathwatch beetle rotted floor beams out to a skip, in the rain. Just for the cameras I'm sure, but better than the heffalump Kirsty who just waddled around spouting sh1te. £5k for re-pointing, £4k for a new floor and they haven't got the money. The fella doesn't appear to want to do it either. She's trying to 'kick his ****' a bit. Buying an old bakery wasn't a good idea maybe, after all. @contradevian
I agree. She was sensible, and decent. Well err.. Property Snakes and Ladders which recapped was a bit of cop out and very economical with the truth, however I suspect it was the only way they could get the pwoperdee owners to appear. Also Grand Designs is a pretty decent programme, focusing as it does on the style and project management aspects. the flying pig
i'm not with the HPC flow on this one. beeney has cracking gazungas & has the advantage of not being a tittering posho intellectual pygmy like krusty but just focusing on the shows beeney's was far more ramptastic. it was all about 'making a killing'. 'PROFIT' figures were plastered across the screen in huge letters at the end of every show. at least krusty's pitiful efforts were usually about finding a family home for someone. Mal Volio
Another couple suffering from construction blindness that should have had a decent survey done. I can never figure why people think that saving £500 on a decent survey on an £x00,000 purchase is a sensible investment.

The Bull Trap
Krusty was interviewed on TalkSport this afternoon - She spoke of her previous series and said "In the last series, people were losing money, so we decided not to continue". No Sh1t. I imagine that's why there's been a change of show theme.

Also Grand Designs is a pretty decent programme, focusing as it does on the style and project management aspects. Sarah Beeny has been rather more respected for her television property programmes, because as far as property development was concerned she had been there seen it and done it. She also appeared to be handing out sound advice, which was usually ignored by the newbie property developers. Furthermore, she always pointed out the selling prices and profit made were in a booming property market, and that she would always look to the real profit margin- the added value the developer put on the house, rather than the market. She as hateful as Kristy to me. Even worse because she's got an air of authority about her. How much fun would it be to be her friend? I hate that creature. domo
Gone is the old get on the property porn ladder theme, in comes "houses are a burden and expensive to maintain." This is the new psychology of the housing market. Looks like C4 and Beeney are on the button with this one.

That's what I was hoping for - and it kinda started like that, but tailed off towards the end as the went all 'wanting to renovate the roof - oh, look some twigs in a vase and some paint - it looks lovely' - What do you mean you removed all the pointing but not put any on... oh, that'll be fine, do it when you get around to it... winkie
Just my thought....who in their right mind would fork out a quarter of a million pounds on an old property without spending a few bob on a full structural survey? They could have knocked off a few grand off the price if they wanted it that much, that would have covered all the renovation costs.....the word survey was not mentioned once in the programme. r.bartlett
I've never understood this You can always find sufficient wrong to cover the £500 cost of a decent survey How on Earth did they get a mortgage on that. Surely the bank would have said it's a no go? That aside it was a real mish mash of every property program going and all the worst for it. They had only 5k to spend but somehow a new joists +oak floor got laid, the whole house got a make over, totally fumagated and treated aginst wet/dry rot and every type of infestation going, the front was being repointed and she got her fantasy loft conversion -and without him doing any of it himself.. Won't bother with that again...
