Just like a free choice to avoid insane housing costs, eh?

Totally direct and spot on.

Modern bent capitalism at it's finest........you can work if you want......but if you don't work in paid fiat employment, then you can't eat but can sit out in the rain until you die.  Meanwhile those who can legally print worthless fiat and inherent worthless fiat can sit by the pool all day.......and not work.

You need  a roof over your head,  you want a coffee it doesn’t have to be Starbucks in fact compared to say choice of operating system on your laptop there is a massive choice

Free markets provide entry points for all consumers.  The current UK housing market doesn't.

Ex Councl flats are now out of the reach of average earners so it's over.  Time is lagging, but the game is up.

Agree, either we have proper socialism or proper free market capitalism.  We have neither in 2021.

Just corrupt Tories talking ********.

TBH, I'd rather have a proper free market than bent socialism.......which is how it always ends up.

Social Justice is Free Markets..........

That’s what I said

Yeah and my point is that apart from housing, every other consumer item is available to just about everyone.

You only have £500, you can get a £500 car.

If you only have £10k, you can't get a £10k house, you are forced to either sleep on the street or lie to a bank to borrow a ridiculous multiple of earnings.

Housing is the last way that the debt based system can stagger on and this is why we don't have cheap property for sale at prices that are affordable to the majority.

Not everyone wants a luxury £300k newbuild.  Many would be quite happy in a £20k prefab and have no debt.

Prefabs! That's what we need. Modern, modular housing units built to accommodate families not itinerant singletons.

A publicly owned capital resource for the future that would relieve the acute demand pressure in the private rental sector and keep the building industry employed while land prices and rents make a long overdue correction.

Doesn't have to be...;)

I counted the obstacles to traffic in the 1.7 mile journey to the town centre:

21 speed humps or speed cushions,

6 miniroundabouts,

1 full size roundabout,

4 sets of traffic lights.

The local council are always wingeing that people don't go into the town centre, and plant even more flower beds, and even on the side of the A class road leading to the town.

And should you surmount all the obstacle, and arrive at the town centre, you have the privilege of lining the councils pocket with up to £12 to park your car.

Some councils do not like cars, some try and price most cars out with car parking fees, others have other fines such as bus lane, speeding and resident parking to discourage entry, then there is congestion and clean air regulation and costs......no wonder the shops have fewer customers, not exactly a stress free adventure, you could also say that if has to travel into work each day where parking is not provided for and the public transport provided does not work.;)

Public transport in Cornwall is a joke.  The railway is unreliable, with last minute cancellations of services, overcrowded trains, and you cannot book a seat on some of the 'intercity' services.  Pay £150 for a ticket to Paddington and stand all the way!  Last time I caught the train from Paddington to Cornwall, there were still people standing in the aisles as the train left Taunton.

The bus service is very limited and expensive, a 2 mile journey costs £4.  There are few buses after 6 pm on weekdays and almost none on Sundays.  Where I used to work, it was quicker to walk to work than take the bus.  And there were no buses if you worked N/S.

Should you decide to walk into town, then as a pedestrian, you have to walk in the road as there are so many vehicles parked on the pavement.  I have complained to the council, and to the local Police, but it's no-ones responsibility.

But we have lots of flower beds, which helps mask the ever increasing number of empty shops.

Unfortunately I worked in many European countries, and have seen what can be achieved with a bit of care and imagination.  But England is poor at planning, poor at housing and local democracy is run for the benefit of the councillors.

England is still great in other ways.

Agree we have neglected our transport infrastructure for years in many tourist areas, when so many more people  have been holidaying at home it has become so much more obvious, when just barely works during the winter......talking to someone who travelled to a Scottish island and the residents couldn't get the car onto the regular ferry they used because full of holiday makers, they were not happy. ;)

You've seen the HS2 / Heathrow threads?

If it isn't 'save the <insert animal here>  ', it's NIMBY or 'What's the point when you can have <insert your pet project>'
