fluffy666
Speechless. For the love of god. It's that wonderful meritocratic system we have in the UK.
TheCountOfNowhere
Un-elected financier now becomes an un-elected lord. This country has problems.
cashinmattress
Speechless. Fitting. His undemocratic post at the BOE is fitting for a Lord, who hates democracy. Now he can sit in the upper house and rub elbows with other the autocrats, passing his experienced eyes and opinions over potential legislation that may reign in the ongoing banking fraud and criminality. grey shark
Sir Mervyn was praised by Mr Osborne for helping "to lead our country through an extraordinary period" in his 10 years as governor. F*****g unbelievable , he was one of the one's that led us into our country through an extraordinary period Edited June 20, 2013 by grey shark

Bloo Loo
like any other civil servant, he sacrificed pay, pension and career in a life of servitude to the people, and the way these people are rewarded is with a gong. cashinmattress
ukip-getty.jpg I fail to see what your picture has to do with peerage, where political allegiance has little to do with anything except where to mail the (favours) cheques. Lord King with be enjoying sherry with fellow red robes, Pearson and Stevens, discussing on how best to screw over the serfs. Whoop whoop. SleepyHead
They gave jimmy saville a knighthood. These are the kind of idiots in charge of this country.

interestrateripoff
F*****g unbelievable , he was one of the one's that led us into our country through an extraordinary period To be fair that was Eddie George. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_George,_Baron_George And he got to be a Baron. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/business/exgovernor-george-says-bank-deliberately-fuelled-consumer-boom-28524833.html The Bank of England deliberately stoked the consumer boom that has led to record house prices and personal debt in order to avert a recession, the former Bank Governor Eddie George admitted yesterday.Lord George said he and his colleagues on the Monetary Policy Committee " did not have much of a choice" as they battled to prevent the UK being dragged into a worldwide economic slump by slashing interest rates. And he said his legacy to the current MPC was to "sort out" the problems he had caused. He's just getting the normal reward.
inflating
Lord Merv? Good heavens, is it he who kept such wonderful control of inflation? I won't bother to ask what Jeffrey Osborne was thinking when he nominated him http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/chancellor-jeffrey-osborne-obama-makes-080927569.html
@contradevian
Lord King of What the Fvck is his complete title, I believe. Lord King of We Didn't See It Coming would be more appropriate! Always amazed me how he would comment on the "banking crisis" as if he were some unconnected bystander.

Ulfar
Why are people surprised, he has played an absolute blinder for those really in charge of the country. As a member of the house of Lords unless he does something seriously heinous he can't be kicked out, it puts him in a position to influence laws like never before. Even if he can't stop something he can give certain people the nod before any laws come into effect, giving them time to evade the consequences.
