I think the answer lies in asking a different question.

Instead of wanting a "house".

How about wanting to be "rich". This will solve the house problem (and afew others). This is not about working an extra day a week, it goes much deeper. Look at how money works, this is a start.

---

The reality is, that over the last decade (thanks to Labour), if you work, most of your income is taken to support other people,; you are a serf to your company/boss. Not only that, you have to financially carry the banks, the landlord, a legion of public sector workers, workshy benefit scroungers, immigrants for benefits, and those in retirement who are living longer, the massive NHS bill, housing benefit, tax credits, disability allowance, motability, PFI and of course, inflation.

There is no wealth left over for you to buy a house.

How much more will you carry before you break?

While I agree with much of your complaint, blaming it all on Labour is a bit simplistic. For example, France is suffering from exactly the same problem of a decreasing number of wealth-creators carrying an ever-increasing parasite load. Yet the government has been right-wing since 2002. This issue transcends the traditional left/right confrontation.

Absolutely, there is no easy collective answer for the masses or an easy way out.

Perhaps. Who knows for sure when it comes to 'individuals' on the net?

If I was setting out to infiltrate a board professionally (professionally? biggest bubble ever, trillions at stake, super-rich and politicians in jeopardy) I would create hundreds and hundreds of "members", make a few posts, or a few hundred posts, all following the forum rules of course (automated, using bots if possible, to save money), then let them sleep. Then, as my "forces" were banned one by one, I would take out one of my old sock-puppets and run with them, trying not to get banned, but sowing my vital seeds of misinformation. Personally, I would have an army with start dates in '06 and all the other vintage years raring to go. Start dates mean nothing. Post counts mean nothing.

(Also it is possible to use password crackers to hijack dormant accounts from real long-standing posters who are inactive.)

Then I would do this (Trolling 101):

Of course, I can't prove that any of this is the case or has ever happened. :D Why would anyone want to undermine a website that is blowing the whistle on the greatest fraud and scam ever? Why would anyone want to encourage new entrants to a pyramid scheme?

Certainly I can't know if any account in particular is part of a troll, so sorry if any of you are not trolls. I have my fallible intuitions about who I've spoken to before, but only the trolls really know themselves for what they are. Some of the best loved people on here might be sleeper trolls - including me. Some are, I'm sure.

That's why only the arguments and the logic and the maths matter.

You cannot appeal for trust on the Internet as you do in your post. In a trolled environment - our 'reputations' are meaningless. Only the facts matter.

Erranta, is that you? Come to think of it, the previous post even goes too far into conspiracy loon nonsense for him

sweet dreams bingobob, I hope you won't get a rude awakening one day...

A rude awakening would be finding out that rather than AussieBoy being someone with an opinion different to you he is in fact a member of an online sleeper cell sent out with the mission to undermine Housepricecrash.co.uk, a plan 5 years in the making.

Get a life.

Top of my head, a few things make this unlikely for this forum in general and this occasion in particular:

- there are sod all bulls on this forum so it is hardly a hotbed of sock puppetry

- you and I have had pretty consistent dialogue for the last six years (which is depressing for other reasons)

- Occam's razor

I don't think you are a troll aussieboy. Your post prior to my first post on this is not trollish - just bullish. I just got a bit excited generalising, as there were a few trollish hints in the other posts (deliberate fact misdirection in tuberider's posts, and a standard troll first post we've all seen before a hundred times, to paraphrase "I've been here forever, nothing's happened yet, therefore we are wrong", which is totally illogical and a straw man argument because we are describing an overvaluation bubble here, and not the timing of its eventual unwinding (which is generally considered to be impossible).)

Of course, that doesn't mean either of the other posters are trolls either.

My follow up post was speaking about the troll environment in general. I do think there is organised professional trolling, with lots of evidence of it. Maybe we should ask the mods if they agree?

I'm certain there is, can you imagine worried estate agents not trolling a site such as this?

I know people in marketing and even they pay for trolling of opponents' websites. HPC has been named as one of the most influential outlets of "new media" in the UK, and is certainly visited by a goodly proportion of first time buyers in waiting. What makes you think that things that impinge on global bankruptcy, the banks, the military and political power would be less likely to be candidates to be interfered with than, say, sweet sellers?

Nothing, but this website doesn't impinge on any of them.

Sibbers and Hamish on mse have more impact lol.

Good to see the HPC witch burning squad out in force in this thread.

Remind me again, is this the fear stage?

The Denial stage?

Another bull trap?!?

Maybe (just maybe) it is different this time. This time it's rigged, and I'm about to lose faith. There's no way any government will allow house prices to drop when they own such a high proportion of the most affected banks. Another reason which imho <1% base rates and SMIs will remain indeffinately.

It always amazes me how a thread can "evolve" or "mutate".... phew... can of worms!!! :D

Anyway.....

We are in an almost identical situation, and we feel exactly as you do.

We are currently trying to find a longer term let, at least 2 or 3 years, and from a landlord that would "allow" us (ridiculous) to have children and pets in the next few years, if we decide to. (Totally absurd to have to ask for these things. Britain is fecking medieval.) And it's been very very difficult.

Thankfully my landlord does allow decoration, pets and children.... we have a garden, so all in all it is fine.

Bomberbrown is right!

Congratulations!

Agreed. At the risk of sounding like mumsnet, hearty congratulations on your new baby.

Cheers :D

+1 My wife keeps me in check :D I am resigned to the stupid housing situation in the UK :D

My advice is probably unwelcome. But if I were in your shoes I would be less concerned about decor. If you can find a reasonable house to rent with a reasonable landlord then I would put up with the decor. Just my two pence worth.

I agree.... it's just that I've been putting up with decor for 12 years.... and it is starting to get to me!

Feigned innocence won't help you. :P

I seriously didn't know what one was!

I do sympathize with you but the crash is happening if you had ignored the idiots on here and bought gold so as to avoid the debasement effects on your wealth of the falling currencies. You either were unfortunate that you missed all the warnings as to what was taking place or you chose badly like some on here. To be fair, buying a house should be fair and affordable not some casino.

My problem is that my salary x 4 does not equal a house.... gold is irrelevant in relation to salary multipliers and paying bills out of it.

OP: I feel your pain. This country sucks.

Thanks.... it does.... in many ways... but I still like it here :)

The night seems darkest just before dawn.

unless you're in Alaska in the middle of winter, in which case it's really really dark, looks like getting a little brighter when the sun approaches from under the horizon and then - no - it goes dark again
