Another one bites the dust - this autumn and winter will prove to be utter carnage for the travel industry since most firms were unable to build up adequate reserves in the summer selling season to tide them over, and usual bank credit is hard to find as banks do not like this industry right now. Even those firms who boasted that they sold all of their inventory this summer are at risk - as to achieve those sales margins had to be slashed to all time lows: Cruise agency collapses with 4,000 forward bookings (17 September 2009) A specialist cruise agency has collapsed with 4,000 forward bookings. G&B Travel, which used the trading name Gillett Travel, ceased trading on September 11 and can no longer meet its future liabilities. ABTA is advising customers of the travel agency, which was based in Horwich, Bolton, to contact the cruiselines they are booked with. The agency sold all of the UK's major cruise operators' product. Retail claims are being handled by ABTA's claims handling partner CEGA. ABTA number: 30881 ABTA claims reference: AB8999 Claims period closes: March 11 2010. Well that and the sheer volume of direct sales ads by the cruise companies in the papers tell me prices are falling and with it margins. Here we go-I think I am right in saying that Horwich RMI still have the longest name ever to play in the FA Cup (1st round proper). Horwich Railway Mens Institute. Might even be railymens mechanical institute. I never did find out, it was always Horwich RMI (now Leigh RMI I think). Shame- the RMI then a cruise ship whatsit. Is nowt sacred?
