OLDFTB
Cobblers! We bought a washing machine from JL on Saturday... You should have waited longer. Don't you know there is a washing machine price crash happening at the moment? How much cheaper would it be next year if you hadn't jumped onto the washing machine ladder? Country solicitor
Hugh Harvey, the CE of Comet was on Today this morning speaking to Nick Cosgrove. Cosgrove referred to a drop in retailers' shares which had occured yesterday spurred in part it appears by a report from a broker (unspecified) stating that there had been "a material slump in sales in the last 2 weeks" on the high street. Harvey agreed things were tough and cited the dire news following on from Lehmans demise.
Guest sillybear2
After the short ban on financials many of the hedgies moved their short positions on to the retail sector, maybe they'll be the next one's begging for a ban? Of course, nothing is ever the fault of f****d fundamentals, just nasty 'spivs'.
stevebrowne
My wife popped out today and found that she was the only person in Next (a large retail park branch) and one of only 2 or 3 customers in Boots (on the same retail park). Peacocks and TK Max were HEAVING.

Peacocks and TK Max were HEAVING. How fortunate that the stores were almost empty when she "popped out". Are any photographs available of her "popping out". I have a box of tissues at the ready, if they are.
moonriver
Sainsbury and Tesco solid? Rise of Iceland and Asda? Well I reckon Tesco must be pretty solid. We have had this credit card for a while...... it was with RBS, then Tesco recently took it over. We had a letter last week saying they had reviewed all the credit card accounts, and were increasing our limit with immediate effect. (we had not requested an increase). I wonder if they are likely to step in with other banking trade before long ?
dr ray
Boss of JB sports was on the radio last week saying the crash hadn't affected them and their profits had increased due to some exclusive chav shellsuit they were selling. Maybe something to do with Liverpool being the City of Culture or maybe he was just a liar.
BrickandMortar
I would class the high street shops into three categories: Cat 1) Zara, House of Fraser, Laura Ashley, John Lewis, Bentalls, Karen Millen Cat 2) Next, River Island, Principles, Dorothy Perkins/Burton, Boots Cat 3) Peacock, Matalan, Primark, QS Evans, Superdrug Expect Cat 1 to really suffer (shops closures etc...) Cat 2 to go through tricky times but just about manage Cat 3 should do OK ish...

Bl00dy hell even I have heard of Zara! Spanish. I almost never spend money in any of those. In fact I source about 95% of my clothing needs from Christmas and birthdays, or free gear from work. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I bought any clothes. It seems that the demise of retail is long overdue. Is it finally coming? Sheeple seem to spend money like water, on a load of sh1te How sad that this is what our economy is based on
