Well, a few years ago this site had various threads with members posting tips on survival.

These died the death a few years ago. (I`ve still got a couple of bags of old pasta!)

Given that the situation is worse now what with China, Russia and the EU etc all in deep sh1t should we revive these threads?

Please note.....as we seem to be heading into deflation this is a slightly different ball game.

The whole QE party was an attempt by the elite to put off the baked-bean day of reckoning and I think its now clear that it was a glorious waste of time.

Most of us said that at the time, but what do we know - internet nutters that you love to scorn.

because you only SEEM to be heading into deflation.

while the likes of nestle etc are selling you 10% less goods in the same size box,for the same price, that in my book is not deflation.

enjoy the lull while it lasts.

supply crunch is right around the corner....kinda 1973 iranian oil crisis on steroids.

..these guys really like to milk it thous, just as you all were getting used to cheap oil, along comes the spider and throws it all into the mix.

of course nobody saw it coming.

personally anyone with ME oil-based investments needs their head read.

Petrobras way more stable...even venezuela more stable.

I'm a food[1] stasher too. Feel very twitchy if stocks run low. This isn't an investment strategy, it's a psychological condition.

[1] Actually, an everything stasher. AA batteries? Top shelf in the garage - about 200. Garden spade? Two spares in the tool shed. Next to the two spare garden forks. Chainsaw oil? How many litres do you want?

Yes well, I gave away my 28 inch TV 10 years ago, I`ve just used a laptop since then.

I`m totally bemused by people buying wide screen TVs.in 2014.....

I have never understood the logic of people buying 55 inch plus televisions when most of their viewing seems to consists of soaps, the X factor, quizzes and dross like the One show.

With regard to stocking up for disaster I am reminded of a scene from the book Flashman at the Charge where the eponymous anti hero takes Queen Victorias nephew on a luxury shopping trip to kit them both out for the upcoming Crimean campaign. After buying the finest food and booze London could supply Flashman final stop was to buy a box of hard tack biscuits

Last of all I insisted on a lead box of biscuits – and Willie cried out with laughter.

‘They are ship’s biscuits – what should we need those for?’

‘Insurance, my lad.’ says I. ‘Take ’em along, and it’s odds you’ll never need them. Leave ’em behind, and as sure as shooting you’ll finish up living off blood-stained snow and dead mules.’ It’s God’s truth, too.

Why? If you are in a built up area? and it goes Mad Max, people will steal your supplies, you need an exit strategy (Car fuelled and ready to go to a remote area) and the ability to acquire ( a buried stash maybe?) or hunt food.

I've been stocking up on the 4 for £1 tinned tomatoes in Sainsbury's whenever they are on offer. I have about a gazillion in my cupboard so in the event of a nuclear holocaust I would still be able to make spaghetti bolognese :P.

That's assuming there are enough bits of you left, in that scenario.

Have you ever tried to wear out a garden spade? I use a Victorian one...

Tools for the slaves I plan to capture to work my land.

Or rather, I think it was a two-for-one offer which appealed to both my frugality and stash-mania.

It's not deep countryside but it's not hugely built up here. And I have an acre or so of garden so tools are always handy.

Besides, my tendency to stash is not driven by apocalyptic fear (I plan to die like everyone else when the meteor strikes) but is a combination of inflation-avoiding alpha strategy and prudence against bad weather, supermarket supply chain disruptions, etc.

I can never understand why anyone would want big heads in their rooms that are larger than a normal sized head.....far to instrusive and overpowering.

If you died in the last six years you're really ahead of the game though.

Don't rate that list much. As a weapon of choice I would probably go for a crossbow rather than guns and ammo. Reason is a good stock of bolts should last you forever, and it is relatively unskilled to use unlike a normal bow, so doubles for hunting and defence.

I see there are no antibiotics on the list, and why would you want a generator when just about everything else on the list is non electric ?
