New Darker Law
Also isnt there CGT to pay?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well yeah, if it were an individual making the profit. I noticed his name appeared above his company, so I presume it went through company books. The only tax would therefore be Corp Tax which runs at somehting like 25%. But he can write off so many costs against that too, like a lovely new X5 Somebody who knows a lot more could correct the above. NDL
brainclamp
Lets look at the economics of this a moment; Anita has her home repossed, unable to meet her mortage repayments. There are now no schemes like MIRAS to help her with tax relief to encorage home ownership. Her repossessed home is then sold by her mortage holder to a pirana pool of well heeled investors and landlords. Anita then goes to the council, as homeless, and the council offers to pay her rent. She is then housed in a Landlords property, where the investor gets generious tax reliefs and can offer her a lower rent than mortgage payments. Hardly a recipe for lower prices like Roger Bootle expects. Us lot just end up paying more of our earnings to pay the landlord his tax relief, and then her rent... What we are really seeing is the transfer of the housing stock, turning over to investors as the BOE chief economist, Charles Bean, stated would occur until all of the housing stock was turned over. Roman Abramovitch
I will certainly attempt to contact the T V company with a view to having this programme screened again If sufficient HPC posters contacted the company there may be a repeat screening. The economy has never been stranger,I'm sorry I meant stronger!!!!!!
Guest Bart of Darkness
60,000 households are six months or more behind on the mortgage <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And this is when interest rates are still very much below the long term average. I've watched this show twice now and I still can't belive something so bearish has been shown at peak time. I'd be interested to hear how people get on tomorrow at work, whether this is a big topic of conversation, whether people who say prices never go up are wavering a little. Go on, rub it in a bit! I work at home so I can't do anything like this alas.

Marina
Saturday's Telegraph property section had a bloke on the front cover who has bought hundreds, maybe thousands (he can't remember!) of off-plan flats. The article was written by some dopey tart in a 'wow what an amazing, clever bloke you are, can I marry you and have your children' way. He is buying everything they can build in Leeds apparently. Whole developments off plan, quick flip and off you go. He runs a massive investment club apparently with 800 eager punters taking all the crumbs from his table. At one point I was almost convinced. And then good old Trevor came along and said something like 'A year ago interest rates went up and now PRICES ARE FALLING' No ifs, buts or maybes just a nice 'PRICES ARE FALLING'. Are the East Enders audience important? I don't think so. It's middle class twits with 2 or 3 BTLs bought in the last couple of years that I hope saw the program. Estate Agents are going to be taking lots of instructions tomorrow.
libitina
I don't understand how the single Mother (the only one I felt sorry for) was paying £925 pm for a £110k mortgage.....? Also, did anyone else notice that the mortgage companies aren't giving them much slack? 9 months in her case and 6 in the other womans case. I think Trevor McDonald should be made an honorary member of HPC! WTG Trevor!!!
29929BlackTuesday
Something that made me livid was the "Ooh and so now they've been repo'd they have been made HOMELESS" Oh come on. Errrm...could you not rent somewhere? I rent - am I homeless then? Am I a tramp? Do I eat pies from bins? Have I turned totally brown? Still - the Ashes and now this. Didn't Trev let himself down with the other point of view some months ago? It's all to do with sunspot 768 you know... WTG Trevor!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I picked up on that immediately and expect she or her husband had MEWed, my sympathy was a lot less after that penny dropped. She wasn't a single mum when the mortgage was taken out, I hope that message was getting through to people. You shouldn't base your borrowings on what you can afford at that point in time. You have to factor in contingencies. It was difficult to make your mind up on that girl as we were provided with so little information. It was quite refreshing to see none of these people blame anyone else but themselves. I hate to see anyone thrown out their house, but in effect a great many sensible FTBs have been thrown out before they got in! NDL Edit: I typed too fast! libitina
The couple with the ex council house that put her parents into a hostel were a bit dim in my view. They remortgaged to 'clear their debts'. HELLO! No you haven't, you've just shuffled them around.

(For others) see the thread You Think Btlers Are Mad? By the way, it is interesting reading their websitewww.summertimeproperties.com... his mother manages the finanial side, not him... he's just a buyer.. however did you see that in the papers And then good old Trevor came along and said something like 'A year ago interest rates went up and now PRICES ARE FALLING' No ifs, buts or maybes just a nice 'PRICES ARE FALLING'. I spent 10 years as a mortgage clerk and although I didn't work in arrears from what I could gather it was a long and drawn out process and not a decision that the building society took lightly. I was always led to believe that they give people a chance to try and sort things out or come to some arrangement but some of them really couldn't be a*sed to pay even a small amount. Smell the Fear
Never seen anything soooo bearish in my life! I was expecting Trevor to jump out at one point in a bear costume and start growling!<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can we conclude from this that the management at ITV have decided there is no profit in making bullish programmes anymore? Have they looked at their portfolio of guff property programmes and decided that the tide has turned and it is time to invest in the bust now that the boom is over? They must think there is a market for this "schadenfreude porn". It might be a pilot for a whole raft of misery tv once the slide really picks up pace. Tonight was a warning shot across the bows of the nation....
