Dunhamzzz Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 New design is officially up! There are a few minor issues I'm ironing out right now, especially with the homepage, some stuff just can't be done until the design is live. Please point out any errors/feedback you have here! Quote
Little Professor Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Not working well in IE No content in the "latest forum posts" box in either IE or firefox News blog doesn't have the real article titles any more Header is too big vertically Quote
Jason Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) No problem, although it did throw me for a second. Although I would like it wider, to fill the whole browser. Edited December 22, 2008 by Jason Quote
oktup Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Sorry, but I personally find the 'narrowness' very irritating. All that wasted space just means pages are much longer than necessary. Feels claustrophobic. Quote

Please point out any errors/feedback you have here! A couple of comments. They may already be on you list but: 1. It's going to get pretty annoying having to click the 'stretch page' for every page. Is there any way the state of this this can be kept in a cookie ? 2. Do we need a separate row just to show base rates and indices ? It takes up quite a lot of vertical screen estate. Quote
Little Professor Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Too narrow - everyone has high-res or widescreen monitors these days. What's with the 1990s width? Edited December 22, 2008 by Little Professor Quote
Dunhamzzz Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 Click the arrow icon in the top right corner to make the layout wider!! Thats also a very old version of IE you are using, I would highly recommend to update to either ie7 or firefox. Quote
Umaguma Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Waste of screen, too narrow, getting tired of scrolling Quote
sbn Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Add reply seems to leave a large blue area where you used to type (in firefox) Quote
thecrashingisles Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Add reply seems to leave a large blue area where you used to type (in firefox) +1 And it's too narrow! Quote
injustice Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I like it. No narrowness on my screen. Quote
Greg Bowman Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 No problem, although it did throw me for a second.Although I would like it wider, to fill the whole browser. Style Seems clean but echo the wide comment also slightly against the trend most screens sold now either laptop or Desk panel have the TV style 4:3 ratio so seems a funny time to move away and go narrow? Quote
Little Professor Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 News blog doesn't have the name of the news source (Telegraph, BBC News etc) any more. Don't much like clicking on random external links. The width issue is ridiculous. Come on boffins, lets get this sorted! Quote
tinker Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Just noticed the change as I was browsing. (IE8) I like it. Fresher feel. Would like the full page spread, if chosen, to be 'remembered'. Better still make it the default setting? Header using up a lot of screen space... Good to have the forum hot topics listed (eventually) on the home page. Well done! Edited to add: what is that 'Boss' spreadsheet? Edited December 22, 2008 by tinker Quote
Little Professor Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Oh, and WTF? You'll give the bears a heart attack when they notice this at the top of the page: Quote
Bloo Loo Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Click the arrow icon in the top right corner to make the layout wider!!Thats also a very old version of IE you are using, I would highly recommend to update to either ie7 or firefox. The arrow doesnt work (firefox) to make it wider, and there is a big space above the reply box Quote
Little Professor Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Edited to add: what is that 'Boss' spreadsheet? That's always been there! It's for when you are browsing HPC at work, you can click the boss button if someone looks over your shoulder and it looks like you are doing some real work. Quote
yellerkat Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 The arrow doesnt work (firefox) to make it wider, and there is a big space above the reply box Ditto. (Firefox/Ubuntu) Quote
Little Professor Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Thats also a very old version of IE you are using, I would highly recommend to update to either ie7 or firefox. It's not a very old version, it's IE6, which still has 25% market share amongst all browsers (above Firefox), and is the most common browser in work environments, as system IT admins have held back from adopting IE7. We don't have the choice to upgrade. Edit: Yellerket and BlooLoo, the expand button is working fine for me in Firefox 3.01. Do you have Noscript or some such installed? Edited December 22, 2008 by Little Professor Quote
Dunhamzzz Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 you may still be using the old cached javascript page. I just forced it to refresh. Quote

Firefox 3.0.5. No noscript, Icedtea java plugin though. Will try to load the SUN 64-bit Java alpha plugin. Quote

the end is a bit nigher Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 TF for that - just hit the reload and thought my PC was done for - looks ok from here though not quite sure where the edge of the screen is! Quote
thecrashingisles Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 The tongue sticking out smiley has disappeared. Old posts using it now just have 'tongue.gif' as text. Quote
