LDs look like taking Brentwood off the Tories in local elections on the back of opposing developments.

Looks like on vote shares there was a swing to Labour from the Tories in Brentwood - the Lib Dems vote share barely moved.  So it seems the LD gained two seats - from a shift between the two largest parties nationally - but the extra votes Labour got did them no good as they are also rans in an area like Brentwood.

Brentwood borders London - and is on the Elizabeth line and also has fast trains stopping only once to the city - so its inevitably going to be a prime area for new housing. And quite right too.

Personally I would insist the planning policy be changed so that any ward which elects nimby Lib Dem councillors is prioritised for new housing developments and lots of them - imposed nationally!

Labour MP blocking 477 homes:

(A cursory check on Wikipedia shows she likely has her own generational housing wealth tied up locally and a private education to boot. Vile person. Embarrassment to the Labour party)

I haven't read the article but I guess she doesn't say where the right places are.

Clearly not here:

"But the Planning Inspectorate has now thrown that out, concluding that the buildings on land called Home Gardens, near the junction of Blackboy Hill and Redland Hill, would be overbearing on two nearby cottages on St Vincents Hill."

Locals went as far as the Court of Appeal to try to block this. Again building houses...is really bad for a village

The population of Blean is almost 6000 this should not cause a big problem really.

Mad Tory councillors this time

Their entire objection to the housing scheme is based on some problems with the canal swing bridge. Just classic desperate NIMBYism.

Thankfully planning has been approved.

Interestingly, local residents in my area are up in arms over the building of new residential houses on a brown field site in town because they are currently parking their bikes and range rovers on the land (illegally?) and won’t have anywhere to put them if the new housing is built.

Sometimes you cannot win.
