I can't see a thread on this-- if there is let me know and I will merge it.

P45 is in the post. I have heard they are stamping down on waste to deliver a first class service.

Two years pay as redundancy money, they will be queuing around the block to be axed.

It's true that they have a first class redundancy package, so many will be eager to get on their bikes, but to be frank I'm not sure they will be able to stamp out enough waste to deliver the savings required to prevent them posting a loss.

The Royal Mail is seperate from the Post Office.

Privatisation may or not make a difference since the price of a universal mail system obviously costs

more than catering to the most profitable parts in a post/delivery model as TNT would do for example,

also pricing restrictions are imposed on Royal Mail ie 1st Class stamp 41p.

In a free market it is more likely imo that Royal Mail will become the dominant market leader, simply because

their delivery/ collection system has been built under monopoly and govt "helped" conditions and is a massive

barrier to others.

Most believe Royal Mail is the Post Office because at one time they were?[ not sure] now not[ 100% sure] but a very close symbiotic

relationship does exist ,another barrier to "smaller" operators.

Post Office and Royal Mail where 'as one' in GPO days. Have been seperate entities for a long time.

Neither business will be able to make money and will continue to provide a poor service to it's customers due to the packages the staff were given in 'the good ole days'. Private postmasters (smaller Post Offices whom own the franchise) have been closing in their 1000's because there isn't enough business to keep everyone due to availability on internet for services, and frankly why would they continue running a loss making business when The Post Office offers them 30 months salary to give the franchise up? Same deal with the Royal Mail workers...they'll be queing round the block.

As for Royal Mail being market leader....Most serious ebay sellers and other post out sales companies have been using private couriers as they are cheaper for larger packages and deliver when they are supposed to....Not the wing and a prayer system we have for standard packages in UK
