doh
From the express... BRITAIN will be battered by an onslaught of bitter Arctic weather from tomorrow. Snowfalls driven by gale-force winds and plunging temperatures will freeze out the mild spell... From the met office... There will also be some bands of more persistent rain and sleet at times, these being more likely to occur away from southern areas. The temperature will be sufficiently cold for the showers to fall as snow at times, mainly on hills, although perhaps also on the lower lying ground at times in the north, especially on the first Wednesday I think dirty desmond should stick to gentleman's periodicals. House prices plunging. Weather and Diana related stories to soar on Express front page...

gusset
Don't worry - The Express headline on Monday will be 'GLOBAL WARMING THREAT CAUSED BY LOSS OF DIANA' amazing. about 10 years ago i went to a science comedy show in which three improv comedians challenged the audience for random topics, which they would then link in a roundabout way with lots of jokes in between. one pair of topics that evening was global warming and the breakup of di and charles. the scientific construct / conceit they used was some chemical used in photography which affects the ozone layer. the advent of digital photography aside, therefore, the loss of diana should be a good for global warming. not only that but we know that her chauffeur liked to put his foot down (shame her security people didn't), which is an inefficient use of petrol. so surely her death has slightly decreased the amount of greenhouse gases in the environment? edit: typo Edited October 25, 2008 by gusset

MRMX9
Typical Express overstatement - daytime temps are only going to fall to 7 degrees at their lowest (hardly arctic conditions) and there may be some overnight frosts with a bit of hail or sleet on Monday/Wednesday (well it is nearly November ). Think of those poor Icelanders with no money - its going to be -3 there on Wednesday and within a few weeks they will only have 2 hours daylight a day! yawnIHateSundays
Not according to the Met. For the SE: Sunday: A cloudy day with further outbreaks of rain. Clearer and fresher weather should reach the north of the region later in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 15 °C. Hardly think 15C could be described as arctic, even by the most deranged journo. kagiso
Must have been sent by those Icelandic terrorists.. quick, lets bomb them! Talking of Iceland, the Denmark Strait (Between Iceland and Greenland) was close to freezing over a couple of days ago - unprecedented in modern times: http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/NE...ce.some.001.png And the general bounce back in Arctic ice coverage has been dramatic: http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm Both of these are caused by the global cooling induced by very low solar activity taking us into a new Dalton minimum. I don't know about this weekend, but we are certainly going to have an Arctic winter in the UK, the worst at least since 1963. As temperatures plunge, and the power industry (hobbled by green restriction on building new gas, coal and nuclear) institutes substantial load shedding, it will be interesting to see how many tens of thousands of pensioners will be sacrificed to the great god of environmentalism this winter. You have been warned: http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/ind...mp;#entry995055 Protect yourselves.
