Lorry fires are more common that you think, particulary where the brakes are faulty and the friction causes the linings to catch fire, (often close to some accelerant oil or axle grease for example)

Not a weekly event on the chunnel but not as isolated to happen twice since it opened.. (Think it was a wagon fire which closed the thing for Months some years ago)

Only reported this time round because of the increased terrorist activity on the Continent.

I do declare, I have only just noticed, that there seems to be more innuendo on the threads in this board than in all the old Carry On films combined! Tut tut tut tut...........

I should have my own "carry on" film!

I think this serious incident is being played down.

Sunday afternoon and still only 1 of the 2 tunnels are operational.

The tunnel that had the fire is still closed.

I wonder why that is? damage to the tunnel structure?

People in the tunnel? (the tunnel Co2 alarms were triggered)

If it is closed for the reason given at the time of the "fire" which was time for

smoke to clear well wouldnt that have been well clear within a few hours?

Why can't they just take the batteries out, like I do with my smoke alarms when I am cooking?
