From the linked article: Fearful of targeted strikes, they asked the BBC to withhold their real identities and locations

Yeah - bet they did.

You cite a Kremlin source as a counter to the BBC?

Presumably just adds balance.  I cite any number of sources - from the Guardian, through to the BBC, through to RT or Zerohedge.

Spain wants in on Russia's high-speed railway project

The ambitious Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway project has attracted interest from Madrid, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport. The track is a joint project between Russia and China.

The new 770 kilometers of track between Moscow and Russia’s Tatarstan capital Kazan will stretch through seven regions of Russia. It will have 15 stops, including Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, and Cheboksary. The journey from Moscow to Kazan currently takes 12 hours, but will now be reduced to just 3.5 hours.

The new link is part of a network of high-speed lines planned for the football World Cup, which Russia is hosting this year.

Beijing has expressed interest in funding the project, saying it will provide $6 billion. China considers the project not only as an investment, but also as a way of boosting communication and trade with Russia and Europe.

Dollars, vodka and oil.

The entirety of the Russian regime summed up. Putin is not charismatic enough to step into the shoes of Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin or Hitler. We would be in trouble if he believed in more than just himself - a God-sent limitation. Plus as my Muscovite friends tell me, there is no chance of any good private business innovation coming from Russia as the only business that survives is the protection racket.

Gangster land. China on the other hand knows how to make and sell things. It knows how to make money without a gun.

There are upsides.

Russia doubles LNG exports as revenues grow threefold

Exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia doubled to five million cubic meters in the first two months of the current year compared to the same period in 2017, the Federal Customs Service reports.

Revenues from LNG sales abroad more than doubled to $667.8 million in January-February against the same period last year.

In December, Russia’s largest private gas producer Novatek launched the first stage of the Yamal LNG plant. The facility aims to be the first in Russia to produce 16.5 tons of liquefied natural gas annually.

The launch of the second stage is scheduled for later this year. The third stage - for the beginning of 2019. In September, the company announced plans for one more line able to produce a million tons of LNG per year.

Thats great if you never want to communicate with 95%  of the world. Rather misses the point of inter-bank transfer.

'The World' is a much bigger place than the Western World - the more the West uses the established economic system as a weapon of war against those not in its club or close circle of chums, the more the rest of the World will develop its own solutions that don't rely on predominantly Western-based institutions.

Something like this system could easily gain traction in the non-Western World leaving us in worse position than before.

India Pulls out of Joint Stealth Fighter Project With Russia

India has reportedly withdrawn from a 11-year joint program to develop a 5th generation fighter jet with Russia.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has reportedly withdrawn from one of the most ambitious and controversial joint Indo-Russian defense programs to date: the co-development and production of the Sukhoi/HAL Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA), also known in India as the Perspective Multi-role Fighter (PMF).

Senior Indian officials, including National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Defense Secretary Sanjay Mitra, purportedly informed a Russian ministerial delegation this month that Indian government was pulling out of the 11-year collaborative program to develop a stealth fighter jet, official sources told IHS Jane’s Defense Weekly on April 20.
