The committee said it wanted airports to be forced to plan more effectively so people had at least basic supplies. Would they get there own quango as well? It snowed a bit more than usual for a couple of winters, there was a week or two when it was a bit difficult to get around, then it melted and everything was back to normal. It's pathetic that we can't simply put up with these things occasionally (although as it happened almost everyone can, so there's no real need to do anything much). When will the climate change enthusiasts get it through their thick skulls that outside of ice ages heavy and prolonged snow is not, nor has it ever been common in central and southern England. Any large fleets will have huge depots and storage anyway - so would not be a great deal to arrange. Ambulances, fire engines, police cars, certain % of buses, certain % of taxis, certain % of hauliers. Pretty simple really. Then if we get similar weather all the necessities will still be transported as required. And if people want to get their own winter tyres - up to them. Make it very public that during certain periods of heavy snow/ice etc.. only those with correct tyres.chains/socks will be allowed on the roads. Warnings on internet, text, radio, road signs, TV etc... This will ensure the roads don't get clogged up and let the gritters/ploughs do their jobs. Instant on the spot fines of £1000 for anyone breaking the rules outwith an emergency. SIMPLE. PS - winter tyres are better in cold weather never mind just snow. The odds of it being a regular annual occurence are pretty slim, whether you accept climate change or not, and when it does happen it doesn't last long enough to be a major problem in the grand scheme of things, so don't bother doing anything out of the ordinary at all except apply a bit of common sense when it does happen.
