Seems to have relieved a ton of suppliers of money too, judging by the website, and doubtless relying on bookings stemming from the show. The IBA must be spinning in its grave at these infomercials.

My guess is that the poperty will appear on the market, as soon as the series is over, and they expect to make an extra profit from some mug. But - buyer beware. They are tarting the place up.

For example, the sash windows need total replacement. The wet rot fungus will have spread well beyond the bits being replaced. They will continue to decay away to nothing in a couple of years.

They put rainbow trout in that rediculous lake. The fish will wither and die from lack of oxygen. They need fast moving water. Over hanging trees and decomposing leaves will kill them all.

So, it makes a programme, but it is all short sighted. Buyer beware!

Agree on all points, esp those fish. I was expecting wild carp or perhaps a couple of tench.

Beeny is adroitly repositioning herself from PL's hard-headed business woman to the plucky mum doing up a house on a budget, while coping with her lively and loveable tykes.

Are you being serious ?He's been a developer in the longest boom in history. She has been earning (no doubt) at least £250K a year for the last 10 years or so. The only thing that's irritating me is the level of BS around the costs - she clearly has (or should have) the money to do it up - she's worked damned hard in the last decade - you might disagree with what she's done, but you can't say she's not worked at it - I will be amazed if they haven't got at least £5M stashed - I think the talking about costs is simply to avoid looking like they're loaded.

Has she sold her large house in SE London - doubt it.

There is, however, NO WAY AT ALL, that work is costing half a million. Nearer £2M-3M I'd suspect.

As for getting into weddings, people will pay, they just pay for weddings - a country house IS £5K-10K a day plus about another £3k-4K for 20 bedrooms, PLUS the food, plus the drinks, plus, plus, plus - it might not be what you think is worth it or prepared to pay, but that IS what they cost and there are plenty of people willing to pay. I don't think, so long as they use the cash to pay down borrowings, that this is a particularly risky venture, given how little they paid for the house in the first place.....

How long ago was the programme filmed? Maybe she was trying to sell AFTER completing the work.

I agree that the coyness about money is because they're loaded. Most property porn gives all the money numbers to the last quid.

Spot on. Beeny is no mug, Kirsty Violet Elizabeth isn't fit to lace her Jimmy Choo's. Apart from the short period when she went for the chav badger hair-do, SB has always been one smart shire princess.

Kind of gave up with the programme part way through, though that was partly due to watching on 4oD and jerky BT Broadband which still can't cope with such advanced technicalities which is streaming media.

It was the cutesy staged shots that started to piss me off the usual tv setup, of false jeopardy, namely limited funds (yeh right) a wedding booked in 6-7 weeks and for extra larfs, Beeny was going to project manage it 200 miles away from London (why?).

Then on top of all that, all the staged "beeped" scenes of things going wrong, because C4 are not going to have a film crew hovering around 24/7 for when things screw up.

Basically the usual rubbish that bears little relation to reality, but having to be on a grander scale to attract the interest. I was also conscious that Beeny was "sort of" acting her pieces to camera, but didn't entirely come over naturally. Wouldn't be surprised if she has some footlights training in her blood, but isn't very good, so ended up a TV property "expert."

Yup but this wedding venue is getting huge chunks of advertising on C4. No other venue has this. This won't last, but probably won't have to, along with the tv appearence fee's. One suspects judging by the "advertising" on the venue web site, that freebies were won, in exchange for becoming cuddly tv personalities. It got to be better than it rotting in the Yorkshire countryside and just visiting from London odd weekends of the year.

I thought they were a little dismissive of the dry rot. Now that is a killer (for houses). This will over time bring a whole house down. You really have to remove every bit of woodwork and burn it, and the stuff even drills through bricks too, and requires horrendous chemicals to kill it. A dry rot infestation clearance on that size could well take months, so I would agree with the other poster about caveat temptor!

Yes I wondered that, but assume its part of the "attraction." You would arrange transport., and everyone would be whisked away to the middle of nowhere for most/all of the wedding weekend?

photographer - £3.5K including album - 2 photographers all day and most of evening

venue - £6K

food £10K (100 people) - but we did eat well all day

drinks - £10K - decent drinks all day and including bar

car - cheap to be honest, £350 (vintage Rolls landaulette, not a 1970's artex Shadow)

coach hire - hotel, to church to venue and back - £300 (did a cracking deal on this for a new double decker)

dress - a lot, but it's what she wanted - £4K, yes I know.....

band, DJ, pianist in gardens, string quartet - no change out of £2K

flowers - £2K or so - we're a bit Elton on these

and that's before you start on crap like seat covers, favours, hotel costs themselves (we stumped for a blanket subsidy on rooms (£5K)) and the like......

yes, I know it can be done a lot cheaper, but it usually isn't done for £2.50 down the registry office.....

I must admit when I saw this programme advertised I had to check if it was a repeat from 2006 because I couldn't understand how anyone could risk all that on the weddings industry now.

not representative at all, but ours was in Cheshire.... la la land. And that wasn't over the top costs wise. I reigned in a lot of the rubbish - but if you want a top venue and service for her day, it really does cost money - I know of my 'less frivolous mates with less demanding wives' - the cost was still over 20K plus honeymoon etc.

You could easily strip 20K out of ours by picking a golf club, or a hotel (non-exclusive), or getting in cheaper food or using cheap booze and not paying for the bar, or ditching half of the music and getting her to wear a pretaporter dress, or getting one photographer who was alright, just for the afternoon..... but as a one off for decently off couples, which is what Beeney is after, they will and do pay. And remember, there's a LOT of farmers round there - and whoever saw a poor farmer - plus with the accommodation, it really does do masses for its appeal if all the guests can stay over - and hence the margins and revenues.

I suspect she'll run it off her name, then ensure she has the full hotel licences as well as wedding venues, and flog it as the market starts to turn up again in a few years, using her main attributes (brain and timing, not those) again, all it has to do is wash its face for the next few years....

Amazing figures! Good luck to you of course, but that is an immense amount of money to spend on one day if money is in any way still an object to you.

Did you try to negotiate at all in the current market? More people nowadays must be tempted to slip off and do it abroad now mummy and daddy can't MEW for it.
