sleepwello'nights
I found myself in agreement with this. Have I become a grumpy old man, or is this a pet hate of others? Telegraph article
Johnny Storm
The streets are packed with scrubbers and chavs, you are just complaining of a symptom of that.

Frank Hovis
I don't see many people chewing gum these days, I thought it was dying out.
6538
I found myself in agreement with this. Have I become a grumpy old man, or is this a pet hate of others? Telegraph article I'd have no problem following Singapore and banning it completely, to be quite honest. If people can't behave sensibly with it then they shouldn't be allowed it. Horridbloke
A while ago my town put up some "gum boards" - panels bearing pictures of celebratory hate-figures and the like - for people to stick their gum to instead of leaving it on the road. I can't say having a load of chewing-gum-encrusted pictures of Tony Blair dotted around town at eye / chest height was a massive improvement.
Johnny Storm
If people can't behave sensibly with it then they shouldn't be allowed it. Thats ultimately why everything will be banned. A small stupid minority will always ruin things for the sensible majority.
Injin
Cover the ground in ugly tarmac and terribly un atractive pavements, then moan about how it's unsightly to have chewing gum on top of them. Aren't crazy humans great?
Saving For a Space Ship
This could be the solution Reminds of the artist who cast roadkill animals in bronze & then placed them back where they were run over as 'monuments to the fallen' . I cannot find the pics, but founds a similar thing, though more recent, is in glass

6538
Thats ultimately why everything will be banned. A small stupid minority will always ruin things for the sensible majority. This is quite true and, in truth, quite sad. On balance I'd actually prefer very stict and harsh enforecement of the laws against littering but that is never going to happen. That being the case, banning gum is the next best thing and hardly a great hardship when it comes right down to it.

You cannot ban anything. Even the Ten Commandments have failed. What we need is a useful rumour such as eating the gum rather than spitting it out increases certain vital measurements. It's not something which is going to result in a huge black market because it isn't addictive like drugs and doesn't have a strong cultural and social element like alcohol. No one will miss it and you aren't going to get yardies shooting one another to control the Wrigleys supply on the local chav estate.
JustYield
Who throws gum on the pavement? I don't, I don't know anyone who would, but still a lot of people must be doing it. Does anyone here know somebody who does?
