Incredibly, this is being reported as all being ok, as we just need to beat Slovenia. We couldn't beat an egg.

How can these buffoons be on £100k plus a week for the display they produced?

You should see how much Cannon & Ball were on!

Capello is on £6m a year. And he is incapable of changing the team formation when it is not working.

Most international coaches are on £1m or much less.

He is far more at fault than the players. This not naming the team until 2 hours before the game can't help them settle before the game either.

Would agree with that however the players have to take their own responsibility. No matter what you say about formations and all - this is no excuse for dismal passes and shocking touches. That is down to the players and nothing else.

As I said before this started the reason for the failure is simple - the English players are not technically good enough. Simple as that. Now everyone goes on about these players doing well in the Champions league and all ? Well have a think about it - how often do they do this when they are NOT surrounded by technically brilliant foreigners ?

As long as they have these players around them their own talents can come to the fore. Their drive and passion comes through. However when it is only English players on the pitch ? The technical ability is not there and it is so obvious for everyone to see.

Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard are considered World Class. However I simply don't think they are in terms of ability. I said before this started - I have seen players at my local 5 a side with better control of the ball than the above players. Last night just proved it. Honestly when I was 15 years old I would say I had better close control of the ball than the players above. And I just played for my school and nothing else.

They are just not good enough. Anything else is just noise IMO. So far we have had bad luck blamed, the ball blamed, the fans blamed and the formation blamed. When does reality bite and people see the truth ?

I would agree it's time for the FA to start using the Prem League to farm foreign players for England. Arteta qualifies now for England so lets get him picked if he wants it.

Our players just can't do it technically last night was a complete embarrassment it wasn't a football match it was just like watching Sheffield Wednesday play in England shirts it was dire with no idea what to do with the ball and lacking the ability to pass the ball 3 or 4 yards to a player in the same coloured shirt, although this itself was difficult enough before the players where too far apart to accomplish this simple task.

Fabio has to drop Rooney he's clearly not fit and in two games I didn't even realise he was on the pitch, however it appears he's one of the select England players that simply won't get dropped because of who they are.

As for technical ability this is down to the FA and the Prem league for not investing in the kids, it's always kick and rush for kids, everyone is taught to panic and move the ball forward quickly. Strength and speed it would appear are regarded more highly by coaches than the ability to actually pass the ball.

I can remember playing a friendly against Barnsley's signed school boys and they had this large fat guy up front, no pace, no real ability but was just big and fat he just knocked you off the ball. Obviously he never made it as a pro, might have been able to replace the Fridge in US football but for playing football here he was useless. But his size advantage gave him a boost and made him look better than he was weighing nearly twice as much as everyone else on the pitch.

The premier league has killed the England team, this side is not a patch on the 1990 one. It would appear that without our foreign friends playing alongside them our players are useless, and football is such a simple game to play.

What'll happen is that in about 8 weeks Rooney will have scored a few for Man United. Then the media will all start bleating on about how world class he is. I think we're hoping he's unfit to mask the reality that he is actually not all that good. His touch was poor, his control awful and his vision terrible, regardless as to whether his ankle is 100%.

This is where it matters. When genuinely great players in tough times step up and make things happen. Instead, Rooney has been absent and then behaved like the petulant brat that we all know he really is.

I am not a City fan either.

Yep I agree, if your world class and only 80% fit you should have enough ability to play football and influence the game.

We are struggling and Fabio needs to make changes.

So it ends up, in this group of dearth, with England almost certainly requiring a win to reach the second stage. Slovenia, a country of two million people - less than the FA have registered adult players - ought to be a walkover. But they can trap and pass the ball. It helps.

Sums it all up really....

Jeez, is England going to go out in the group stage? :(

What are the likely scenarios?

Slovenia 4pts

USA 2pts

England 2pts

Algeria 1pt

USA likely to beat Algeria which would mean England need to beat Slovenia to go through, USA have better goal difference so if USA and England draw, England are out unless they get a high scoring draw (unlikely). If USA get beat (unlikely) then England still need a win as Algeria would have 4 pts compared to Englands 3 if they drew.

Bottom line: England must win.

I could do the same for a bit less (say 100 quid).

I wouldn't even need the air fare to South Africa, I could phone my poor decisions in.

Oh go on, £75 then.

I am clinging on to the likely scenario that we beat Slovenia and somehow emerge as group winner.

I've just spoken to Richard Scudamore and he's spoken to his internet-specialist lawyers. This counts as a contractual offer and it has been accepted. At £75 that is, the days of big money deals are over.

Welcome aboard.

It was so good to see England play fast, effective and artistic attacking football. Some of the passing moves were breathtaking in their scope and imagination.

On this form I take England to win the whole damn thing. With some ease.

Everyone I spoke to before the game was of the mindset that Algeria were crap and we'd beat them at least 2-0. I kept saying I wasn't so sure and had a feeling that it'd be like the USA game all over again.

Well. I've never been so frustrated when watching a game (and that's coming from a Darlington fan!) and really do think that Slovenia will hammer us. I'm expecting a 2-0 win to them on Wednesday.

I also expect that the USA will find it very hard to break Algeria and will be lucky to get a draw.

Either way, I'm sorry to say I predict a beating for us on Wednesday and Capello to be sacked (subject to contract) soon after.

No Rio, Nev, Wes, Scholes, Carrick, Becks, Rooney carrying an injury.

Predictable outcome.

He's used to getting some supply from the wings and midfield.

Last night he received perhaps 1 ball on the actuall pitch. But I agree, he'll be set up by the meeeja as the scapegoat simply because how can you scapegoat sh1te like Johnson, Heskey, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Giraffe etc? No supply = no goals, it's that simple.

...by beating the only team in the group to have won so far! As usual we muddle through unconvincingly. If we beat Slovenia there'll be a swift return to talk of going all the way. We never learn!

Thanks for the analysis.

I thought alergia played quite well compared to the sack of monkey poo they'd dressed up in england shirts.

Seriously embarrassing for whoever picked the team.

Perhaps we should ban foreign players from uk leagues until we are properly good at football.

And why is David sat at the sidelines? Does he give advice to the manager?

*sighs*

I read somewhere that most of the Algerian squad were born in France and a few had played for France at youth level.

Presumably they realised that they had little chance of making the senior France squad and decided to qualify for Algeria by parentage or some dual nationality thing.

So, to be unkind, you could say that they are France's rejects - the B team, but they were more skilful than England.

The France A team is hardly a contender either, so where does that put England in the rankings?

Respect! I'm from Darlington but support Sunderland. I'm partly hoping England bite the dust as payback for Capello picking Heskey/Defoe ahead of Bent.

Algeria's performance didn't surprise me at all, I've thought that Belhadj is one of the best 5 players in the Premiership for some time now, seriously underrated. He twice made Johnson look like he was running in treacle.

The only world class sportsman the Jocks have ever given us is bowler, Richard Corsie.

This guy is world class, but hardly anybody knows who he is. Even in Scotland.

It's Dario Franchitti. Based on the fact that he's carrying a helmet I guess he rides a motorbike?

It's the way with sports. Name as many members as you can of the English men's lacrosse team.

Very few play or aspire to be successful in lacrosse so it's sidelined. The vast majority of boys however played a lot of football and hoped one day that they might play for England or their favourite club so watch avidly the team they wanted to be part of.

IRL is where people who aren't good enough for F1 seem to go.

McNish is probably better. Massive success in sports cars and a stint in F1.
