  1. +1 In recent times I seem to recall an officer getting disciplined for smoking confiscated cannabis.
  2. I’ve recently watched the protestors in Sussex opposed to the fracking and thought, how many of you locals were actually jumping up and down shouting in the same manner with the people of Lancashire when they were doing the same thing up there? Where I live the once tree lines horizon is now (over the last 2yrs) peppered with industrial units. The building work is still ongoing and actually looks to be expanding, another billboard announcing more units has just appeared. I’m not averse to this development but I do only rent a property here. Might I feel very differently if I owned? Are we all NIMBYS to a degree? There are half a dozen huge wind turbines about 10miles from where I live. I occasionally go out to look at them. I actually think they’re quite majestic. Again however might I feel quite differently if there were at the bottom of my garden? I don’t think there’s a silver bullet to solving all this but do think that in this modern world we all need to share some downside be that noise pollution or an altered vista or more road or air traffic or more houses around us. I also think that the people most affected should also have some tangible upside maybe a reduced council tax subsidised by the entity that’s brought about the change.
  3. I don't quite follow his line of reasoning against HS2. I think many would agree that we need more housing and HS2. It's not an either or argument.
  4. What really got my goad was how Wonga put a 'we support Kiva' banner at the foot of their homepage. Trying to develop some legitimacy like they're not a bunch of parasitic sc*mbags! I emailed Kiva and got a reply but it was still on there weeks later.
  5. Considering such a large proportion of the food we consume in the UK is imported I suspect that the price for most things are going to rise especially as more and more countries become more affluent and want to consume in a similar way to western industrialised countries.
  6. Why not lead by example and up sticks? I guess only other people are cramming up your county
  7. They're probably referring to people like me. My Barclaycard rate is 9.9% (not a typo). It matters not tbh as when I use it I always clear the balance in full before any interest kicks in. Very gratifying to receive my annual statement for the past few years and the breakdown of interest, charges etc are just a sea of zeros
  8. Because he/she is clearly from the school of thought that computers are never wrong! People ought to realise that behind every system there are IT people like me and we're prone to the odd misatke
  9. A local resident told the Brixton Blog: “The first we knew was when police arrived and ran past our front door. Then we saw them arrest a white guy in the middle of the road.”
  10. '.............a deep understanding of the financial system and systemic risks' Ok I guess that excludes most of us HPCers! The loonacy of the past decade makes no sense to me
  11. OP thanks for posting. Portillo gets it. I'd even argue that most thinking people get it. The policymakers definately get it but prefer to ignore it instead hoping it just goes away. True story. One day I awoke to find a big scary looking Rottweiller sat in my front garden. I ignored it hoping it would just go away. 30mins later it was still there. So I manned up and went out. The dog was as scared as I was. I fed and watered it and returned it to its owner. Lesson learned. Deal with your big scary problems becausse they don't just fix themselves.
  12. No problem with this as long as they still do dining for £10
  13. I bought some more physical gold last week. This week I'm going to buy more. Call me paranoid but I like to have something of value to trade should it all go pop.
  14. TMT reckon you were right first time, hacked. This started yesterday. My online account was locked out (even though I'd not logged in for a few days) I had to sign up again.
  15. I know I would have stress and mental or health problems if I'd lived in London all my life.
  16. and in amongst all that carnage..............they had their first child! Numpty parents - Poor kid
