Gavin
"It was the 3rd of September, a day I'll always remember.......yes I will.....cos that was the day...my working died.........Gavin was a rollin stone...." In spite of Miss Allsop's wise judgement, the reality of giving up work bites today. I will earn no money starting tomorrow, a scary thought. I will still be able to post occasionally, but obviously in my own time I cannot spend all day on here anymore! I plan to leave the country on September 15th. Its been great spending all this time with you. Having cyber friends, and thats what I like to call you, has been an experience. The Webmaster here has suggested that I set up a link from here to a travel site called "What's Gavin up to?" with pictures and dialogue of my gloal capers but maybe he was drunk last night. I am not sure there is such demand. I will check in from internet cafes, but by then of course all the posters will have changed and I will be a distant memory consigned to page 30 of the forum history. All together in the style of Patrick Swayze..."Now I'''''''''''ve, had, the time of my life, and I never felt this way before.......". p.s. Smallpox? Drink bottled water whilst I am gone, is my advice

Van
Best of luck, Gavin. I have to say I'm so envious! Don't forget the postcards from time to time. You can address them to "Rat Racers, c/o HPC".
Bubble Pricker
Good luck Gavin, well done mate. May the 16th August, the day we appeared on telly, go down in history as the trigger that started the great 2004-2006 house price crash. I take it you are joking. Wish you luck Gavin but you will be returning home to an economy which will have changed against all predictions. Time to raise the rents.
Don't come back telling us some sob story about how you spent your house on a long holiday either! Good luck anyway.
Gavin
First stop Egypt. TTRTR, I don't know why you always assume that after being very frugal with my cash in the past that I will throw it away as soon as I board a plane. BUT if you don't spend it you will die leaving to some other bugger to spend. I can think of worst things than a RTW trip to spend money on right? BUt seriously, I really want to see how other people live, and get a sense of appreciation for what we have in this country, which is quite frankly too much. ENough of the morals. I am writing my leaving speech from work!
Teddy Bear
Have a fantastic time Gavin, you deserve it for having the bottle. T minus a couple of months for my big trip. If you're feeling any last minute nerves don't worry as its perfectly normal. Check out one of my soon to be ex flatmates RTW trip from a few years back for some reassurance (got some good stuff about Egypt) http://www.travelpod.com/cgi-bin/guest_log...=aroundtheworld
Dilemma
Good luck Gavin, I think it was you who persuaded not to buy a place after I sold mine. I was in two minds what with all the confusion and I can honestly say now what a great idea it was to STR. I am flexible now and not tied down to any crippling mortgage. Good luck on your travels and I think looking back, the bears finally have it!!!
Gavin
I hope my tipping the scales goes well for you Dilemma. Please don't sue me if the market goes into another boom. Yeah right. If I have changed one persons life then......blah blah.

RRP
All the very best Gavin. I'm sure you have come across this but what the hell. Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. .

BufferBear Bitcoin Bull
Gavin, enjoy. When (if) you return, your old house will probably cost 30% less than what you sold it for. Good luck. BB P.s Don't forget to give Kirsty a call on your return. Maybe she can rent a room from you.
