Britain Runs Out Of Electricity

Looks like we're having one of those "notifications of inadequate system margin" - it is so bad that we're had to buy electricity from Ireland.

Things are clearly very bad - with this very mild November and all. Apparently it is to do with an unexpected amount of lights being used by people... I've done my bit and bought an LED bulb and a candle.

They've been had before, but usually in Jan/Feb - when there is also heating demand, etc.

Story here if the Google servers go down: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34723259

Eds to add - looks like they've asked industry to use less power, but they've just found out that the last industry in Britain closed down recently, so there's nothing can be done..

What about oil amps to go with the guitars?

I actually do have some paraffin oil lamps. Very handy when the electricity went off, when I lived in Scotlands armpit! :o

Axillism- the act of using the armpit for sex

Oops, wrong thread.

Your "book of words" should be published! If I had a "long word" for it I should call it a "dictionary"!

People don't grow trees for nothing...... Food, oil, shelter, and warmth.... Leaves make ace compost.

That explains why my DRAX shares went up today. Not up enough to compensate for the months and months of down, though. But the divi pays 'leccy bills so I can't complain.

Supermarkets are now "industry"

Asda pay about 35p a unit between 5-7pm.

They're starting to invest in solar and batteries so they can offgrid at those times.
