Democorruptcy
So what do we expect here then? House prices aren't a problem it's just that people being denied the debt they want and deserve so are forced to rent. Renting is bad and puts you at the mercy of nasty landlords. Any mention of tax breaks for landlords helping to price people out of the market? Housing benefit stealing our taxes to line the pockets of landlords. In this undercover investigation, Jon Snow reports on the return of the slum landlord in 21st-century Britain. At a time when more people than ever are having to rent privately, unable to get on the property ladder, Dispatches reveals the shocking conditions in which tenants are forced to live. Dispatches sends an undercover reporter to work for a rogue property empire in the north of England. He reveals a world of forced evictions, slum properties in dangerous condition, and routine bullying of tenants. Jon confronts the man raking in millions while his tenants suffer. Dispatches also exposes an extraordinary new phenomenon: thousands of people living in illegal sheds, transforming parts of London into slums. A second undercover reporter lives in a squalid, illegal shed in London, paying £40 a week rent to another rogue landlord. Dispatches lifts the lid on a world where unscrupulous landlords are exploiting the most vulnerable people in society and getting away with it. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/dispatches/episode-guide/series-96/episode-

Mrs Bear
Hi Gang Hope this is the right place to post this (Haven't been on here for a while ,so it's like being a "newbie" again) . Channel 4 tonight (8 o'clock , I think) a programme about "Landlords from hell" . Got to be worth a watch !! If there's any HB involved (surely?) I hope they'll include something about how much these LLs are making out of it. Shot of a Ferrari outside a £1.5M house would be good. Though fat chance, I fear. @contradevian
Seems to be lot of people who should be enforcing the tenant laws, sitting on their fat arses and doing nothing. What a surprise.
Deft
The ability of people to screw over the more vulnerable never ceases to amaze me (and the government doing sweet f a about it)

Its just a different ecosystem down there. Bottom feeder landlords and tenants. Not a pretty sight, it shouldn't happen in "modern" Britain. Blod
Renting sheds, sounds fun... Lord Prescott actually knocked down 900,000 under his "Pathways" get rich scheme for his property developer family. Labour built only 135,000. Truly shocking.

Sorry, but these perverse incentives are lowering our gene pool.
200p
Labour aimed to build something like 13m council homes, but only built 100,000. They had a decade to do this! Of course they were lining their own pockets. New Labour was socialism for the masses and spoils for the elite.
ccc
\so, go on, I'll say it, once again, it's immigrants who are the problem ? And being PC, we won't do anything about it. Certainly many immigrants are part of the problem. Then again so are home grown landlord scum. And of course benefit scroungers to add into the mix. Boo hoo can't believe I have let this go on for 3 years getting £400 per months for sweet ****** all and whinging about the poor quality of the house I am allowed to live in. FFS. This country is just full of scum. Top to bottom. From brown immigrants to pasty white locally grown *****. From big companies and charities to individuals who are also parasites but on a smaller scale. But what can you do. Leave or get on with it.
