  1. When my father went into a home I had to rush and sell his place as his savings would run out within 8 months. The day after he was in the care home I ordered a skip and the whole of his possessions were thrown in there. Very sad as I wanted to take my time going through the stuff as some of them would have bought back happy memories. As for the suolicitors questions, I just answered truthfully. "When was the patio doors installed and can we have a copy of the guarantee?" - 40 years ago and no idea was the answer to that one! In fact quite a few answers were no idea...
  2. Yes because there was no 35 year mortgages back then! If there was I would have to pay more for my place and I suspect that would have taken 40% of my pay?
  3. take home. Salary £15K - mortage £42,500 (ignore the deposit figure) so £386 on a take home of roughly £1K. Note you were taxed at 20% up to £2.5K then 25% up to £23K!
  4. I posted this in another thread but back in '93 when rates were about 10% my mortgage was about 40% of my earnings.
  5. Yup so do I but I have no intention of scarring myself because of them...
  6. Do the cleaners come in everyday or does your roomba breakdown all the time?
  7. 😁 and also both sides seem to have the same tanks. If I remember correctly Telly Savalas survived unscathed in his tank despite the turrent blown off
  8. I've come to the conclusion that any more than one small tat means the recipient has "issues" of some description. I wouldn't mind if the tats made a coherent narrative but most of them just seem to random splodges ...
  9. Oh dear - let's hope that never blows up. If the Spoon's are relying on financial sleight of hand then the whole industry is doomed.
  10. actually 7 years of double digit inflation...
  11. Good heavens the most I spent on a car is £4K! This is for home & garden improvements, I didn't want the loan at the time but could see the tide was turniing rates wise so nabbed while I can. I have a shed on order and will be getting another one soon. You can call me Arthur Jackson.
  12. No idea but according to mortgage calculator it's about £400pm against an income of rough £1k per month so about 40% which sounds about right. A video recorder in 1994 cost me £300!
  13. In 1993 I bought my maisonette for £47,500 (sarf East London). My mortgage was £42,500 @ 10% and my salary was £15k.
  14. NHS, nationalising coal mines, railways and then off to Korea for a jaunt...
  15. The health problems not caused by the said smoking or drinking then?😉
  16. Because the Poles have been massing on the Belarus border. The nukes are there as a reality check. This is going to turn into another a Russia clown thread🙄....
  17. The rough rule of thumb I used to use was payback went up 50k on every 3% assuming 25 years So 100k @ 3% payback is 150k @6% - 200k @9% - 250k @12% - 300k So a 500k mortgage @6% the payback would be £1M....
  18. Er no, doctors, dentists, hospitals etc need to be near their customer base. I'm not traipsing to the other end of the country for dental check up..
  19. They probably have but I was replying to particular post if you bother to read properly.
