Qetesuesi Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Lets not forget we've been here before, the Money Programme did an interest only 'scandal' programme a couple of years back, yet prices have just boomed and boomed since, and the brainless back then have ended up winning. Actually, it was a self-cert 'scandal' programme (if it's the one I'm thinking of). If anything, tonight's "Tonight" was more like an IO one (mixed with all the other daft wheezes like shared-ownership, massive multiples etc.). But good point nonetheless. Unfortunately, therefore, I don't see it as necessarily any harbinger of a crash....
Red Baron Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 (edited) Did those two girls get any parental advice? An extremely valid point. By my reckoning they must have parents in their 40s or 50s who will have lived through the last crash and witnessed the misery which that collapse wrought on so many. Surely that should have generated the need to caution their daughters? Or maybe the whole of the UK is suffering from mass property hypnosis? I think it's called a bubble.............. Surely that should have generated the need to caution their daughters? Or maybe the whole of the UK is suffering from mass property hypnosis? Unfortunately it is increasingly unlikely that youngsters of their age today will have had stable family histories; who knows how many step-permutations they've been brought up through. The less family continuity during their childhood & adolescence, the less likelihood of solid training in good money management (and other important things).

Maybe the parents are on the "It`s different this time" train. When lenders give their staff monthly targets to achieve then if I was one of their staff I would lend without conscience to protect my job and achieve my target. I also have a mortgage so it`s them or me. The rat race is now well and truly with us, the survival of the fittest.

UNSHURE Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 The people on that program look to be be in serious trouble. I wonder if there are many others like those? If there are, the HPC will occur a lot earlier than I expected a couple of hours ago (2008-2010ish).
Sarah Beeny! Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Well done ITV. Sad viewing in a way, felt sorry for them, for a while. Where on THIS thread is the resident Property Protection Team? They can't all be out enjoying their 'wealth' surely? Okay it's Friday night so i'll let them off, can't wait for them to join in later though.

Unfortunately there was not enough emphasis put on the advantages of renting, instead it was the usual nonsene of rent being "dead money". Edit. Wow my 100th post, do I get a medal or something? Johnny Cash Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 (edited) Thanks for the upload. Watching this its easy to see why the bubble has gone on for as long as it has. People who think that property prices always go up. The girl who said, "Yeah but when was the last time it [the market] crashed?" as if we we're talking about an outbreak of the black death, something long ago, consigned to history and never to be repeated. When sentiment turns its going to be an absolute bloodbath. Edited October 20, 2006 by Johnny Cash
