Leasehold management companies are seen as an 'asset class' to be exploited to the full. We know two people who have been slugged for £40K++ extra charges in the last decade or so for the flats they bought new back in the mid 2000s. New roofs, new security doors, carpets every 2 years, hall painting every 3 years and so on, every issue is a profit making scam for the management companies. Even worse, these companies seem to have the knack of getting some of the leaseholders on side with bribes (holidays abroad usually, paid for from offshore tax havens) or at least spy on resident meetings etc, to prevent a take over via Right To Manage. Potential buyers are now getting wise to these costs now, especially since the cladding scandal and who might have to pay. Some flats you would not want to be given for free.
